Basically, high personal DPS, little to no raid DPS contribution. For example, Dragoon has medium-high dps, but very high Raid DPS contribution in the form of Battle Litany, Piercing Debuff, and Dragon Sight. Black Mage on the other hand, has the very high personal dps, but no raid DPS contribution at all.
Yeah, the idea is that they can contribute good personal damage but have few or no abilities that boost their teammates.
Also if you watch a lot of black mages they will stand in aoes because their dps>mechanics. Along with die to avoidable room wide aoe because again their dps>mechanics. Either expecting their healer's to adjust and have rescue on them or not caring to move out of the bad. Or even just assuming rescue is equipped. Of course I've mostly seen this during 24 man raids and not sure how it is in savage content.
Stop don`t blame the Monk as selfish dps , thats nooooot true :D
We Monks have
Brotherhood =Increases physical damage dealt by self and nearby party members by 5%
Mantra = Increases HP recovery via healing magic by 20% for self and nearby party members.
:D
These are just bad players. A good black mage will never do this because 99% of the time that AoE will cancel your spell anyways. Anyone playing black mage because it's the top dps (potential dps) even though it's "selfish" knows this. You do have the option of Manaward which can protect you, so you may see a black mage do that instead of moving.
A smart blm will dodge and have agro reduction skills as blm is very high dps as for dragoons as a pld there a pain to deal with all ways running in head 1st and not letting me do my job as tank
Manaward helps in some instances so that is why sometimes blm do not move, so in that case your assumption is wrong @SannaR
As far as the topic goes like others said a selfish dps brings the higher damage but little to no group utility.
Samurai and blm fall in this category
