Screen Resolution Problems

I'm trying to run the game on another laptop and for a while the screen resolution looks fine when it runs on its default settings (at 1280x720). I poked around the system settings to see if I can get some better resolutions and when that didn't work out, tried to go back to the default settings but it looks very different from what I remembered.

The launcher looks the same as before:

^previously, the screen resolution in windowed mode fits relatively well with the whole screen so there isn't much difference when I choose to full-screen the window.

But now the game in windowed mode looks like this:

and I cant full-screen it without experiencing huge drops in fps (the whole UI and font remains nearly as small as the previous screenshot too):

if it helps, this laptop's default screen resolution is this even though its actually 1280x720, which the game recognizes

The game is uses Nvidia 920mx as its primary graphics processor. I have a feeling windows somehow magnified the game's window before I messed with the settings and now I can't really go back to that. I hope someone else had this problem and have managed to find a solution for it ><

P.S I have tried to set the game at 3200x1800 and while that sort of solved the problem, the game ends up running at 17fps and is too laggy to play in

When did this become issue? You mentioned you are trying to play on another lap top. Does this mean you play with no issues on a different computer? Did any updates or changes occur that may coincide with these issues?

Thanks for the response!

And yes, there's no issues with the resolution on the other computer I own, so its only limited to that laptop. The game window started to become really tiny after I tried to change its resolution in-game. I half blame Windows for recommending me that weird resolution settings, though that makes me question why wasn't this a problem when I installed the game in the first place.

Previously the game's resolution was set at 1280x720, even though the computer was run in its recommended resolution settings (which is 3200x1800), but the game's window was never tiny until I tweaked the in-game settings and tried to go back to its default setting. I might try re-installing the game just to see if it changes anything.

Thank you for the reply AidenElenor.

Since 720p is a much smaller resolution than 1800p (almost 6 times as many pixels), it would make sense that the windowed mode would be this small. Also, be aware that the launcher in the first image is going to have different attributes from the game itself.

As for the text/font size, find the 'Higher Resolution UI Settings' right under the resolution settings and select a higher resolution option.

Have you tried using borderless fullscreen mode or using a higher resolution like 1080p?

I understand. And yeah, I've tried using borderless fullscreen mode with the 4K Higher Resolution UI option (in 1080p) and that definitely improved things! Except the fps is incredibly low but I'm not sure if that issue is with resolution or if it is more of a graphics card problem..? The FPS drops only occur when i put the game in fullscreen, regardless of borderless or windowed and it stays at 17-19fps at best.
It seems that once the game goes beyond a certain resolution the FPS starts to massively drop

Hello AidenElenor Thank you for your response!

Seems to me this might be more of a graphic card issue. I am going to provide you some steps to try and resolve this issue.

- Switch to DirectX 9 mode (select ‘Config’ from the launcher)
- Update/reinstall Graphics card drivers
- Disable all programs/overlays running in the background
- Perform a clean boot*
- Set compatibility mode to Windows 7/8**
- Make sure that any anti-virus software they have has the appropriate exceptions
- Install game on C drive (The same drive as the Operating System)

Please let us know if any of these suggestions help.

I tried all of the above and only after running the game in compatibility mode (to Windows 7) did the fps increase a little higher. It went to 29fps at the start screen but then it gets reduced to 16fps again when I actually log in and it stays like that :0 It used to be at least 30fps before i went around and poked at the settings (i really regret that now)

Can you please provide us with a system report to do so go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

When you set the game to fullscreen mode, What resolution is it at? If it defaults to 1800p then that would bee too much for your GPU most likely. If you experience drops at 1080p, then go to the graphics settings (System Configuration > Graphics) and select one of the Laptop specific options (you can choose a lower preset or customize it but these presets are optimized for most laptops). If you are still experiencing issues, check your laptop's power settings, if it is set to something like 'Power Saver' then it may only be using the CPU's integrated graphics instead of the GPU. Select 'High Performance' if it is not already selected.
