Materia and Gear at 50; Lost my direction!

Hello everyone;

I have a few questions and I'm in need of alittle direction here.

I just returned yesterday after a 3ish month hiatus (left shortly after Hallowe'en), I was soloing a lot and tanking NM's for LS members and so was trying to go the ole evasion tank route. It also helps that I got lucky with a few conversions and ended up with a +17 evade materia.

My gear right now is as follows

Cobalt Claws: No materia
Raptor Skin Harness: +17 evade materia
Felt Bracers: No materia
Penance
Felt Kecks: +5 Str +5 Dex
Blade Dancers Jack Boots
Dated Electrum Earrings x2
Dated Brass Rings x3

Helm: Never had any idea what to replace my Dated Visored Barbut +1 with.. still not to sure, Raptor skin pot helm until I get something better?

Anyways, clearly an evasion tank isn't what SE has planed for the PUG at this time (Monk on the other hand...?), and I figured since I got my GLA @ 50, I can use him to tank and turn my Pug into more of a DD role?

One comment about the gloves; I know alot of people are going to tell me the ole Fingerless raptorskin gloves or slaying or what have you, but if I slot these felt gloves with the same materia as one would slot the raptorskin gloves, would a loss of 4 attack really be that big of a deal for +5 acc, 1 more magic evade and +3 piety?

The Felt Bracers are perfectly fine, and the slight Piety and Accuracy boost will be beneficial if you stick STR or Attack on them. As far as head pieces go, Raptorskin Pot Helm is a good choice as INT now boosts PGL's auto-attack damage and it has a slight Accuracy increase to boot, not to mention INT materia can be placed in the head slot helping you out even more.

PGL can still tank just fine, although it might be rough for endgame stuff. However, people have been trying out PGL tanks for Ifrit lately and have been having great success, so take that as you will.

Suppose it wouldnt hurt to carry two sets of gear then, one tanky, one DPS?

If you have the inventory space, go right ahead. I'm planning on doing that myself. You really can't skimp out on your DD since it will be what helps you hold hate, so you might want to keep some DD pieces equipped and get HP and evasion on the others.
