US account in a EU client?

Hello,

Today a friend of mine borrowed my laptop when we were hanging out and logged in with his account for a few minutes, his account is [US] and the client installed in my laptop is [EU], yet he logged in and played for a while without any difficulties, so my question is.. what's the difference between the two clients? Is it just the few hours delay when it comes to updates between regions?

The difference is what $ you use to pay the game.
Also Square-Enix ID's can only be linked to the same region content.
If you have a US ID you cannot link a EU key to it.

I'm not talking about the difference between US and EU accounts, I'm talking about the difference between US and EU clients. Because US accounts can log in a EU client without any problems (so far.)

There is no difference whatsoever.

Any account can play on any client, regardless of where. All clients include all languages, including the JP client. Literally the only difference I'm aware of is the default language selected for the installer and the game (which can be changed at any time), but all languages are included regardless.
