Jade stoa EX spine drops

Hello, I cant seem to dodge the paralyze lightning attack from Byakko, because of my delay and lag from being stationed out in the middle east area for a deployment. My solution was to use spine drops if I was hit however it did not work. Is this a bug or working as intended since it still can be purified with esuna or selene.

Spine drops(or any of the other "medicine items") almost never work once you get past level 50. Its unfortunate, as it would be nice to have alternatives.
