Magitek Objective Question

As the title says (sorta)...I have been offline quite a bit lately because I got a new big house ^^ and I logged on a couple of days ago and noticed something new on the map. "Magitek Objective". At first I ignored it and thought it might be a new entrance to something since I was in the middle of finishing up the MSQ for 4.2. After I completed my quest I was flying around and decided to check it out. Once I got closer some missiles fell outta the sky, I was like woah what the heck! I looked down and there was a big spider mech. I was going to fly down but then got a message that said I failed "kinda like a fate"...question is...what was this? Is it something like a fate? Do you need multiple people to deal with it? I assume you need to stop it from hitting a certain area since it was "at least seemed to" be attacking the ship on the mountain.

I believe there is such a fate. Peaks, right?

There is a FATE in the Peaks where a big magitek spider spawns, and the objective is to kill it before it reaches its destination. The magitek spider's target destination is marked as "Magitek Objective" on the map, just so you know where it's going to go and how much distance there is left. Once it reaches that destination, it shoots missiles up that come back down to destroy itself, ending the FATE in failure. I'm very confused, from a lore perspective, what the purpose of this FATE is supposed to be (but I don't remember what the FATE's description is -- maybe it's explained there). It seems like a giant waste of Garlean resources.

tl;dr It's a spot where a FATE ends, if you don't kill the FATE boss before it reaches that spot.

The bits always re-spawn when killed in that fate. Also you get an achievement.

As far as I recall, the resistance finds it. They poke. It wakes up and goes berserk. They try and fail to stop it. Leaving it up to you. (or as the case is nowadays no one) to destroy it before it... destroys something. (But ya it destroys itself in the end so ya... )
