question about bard performance

I see bards with the rainbow of notes for playing music on perform, and it is said they\\'re found in the action&traits menu. however when I open up the menu all I see are the "harp", "lute", "piano" buttons, which just brings up a piano keyboard interface?

where and how do you get the music note buttons?

Those images/videos are obsolete. The pre-4.2 performance used separate action buttons for each semitone. As of 4.2, perform uses only the instrument selection actions and the keyboard interface.
