Can the Camera move around hanging objects instead of under?

I don't know how many people prefer their camera to stay above them, but I've noticed that when it collides with some hanging objects (lights in Gridania, though interestingly enough not their supports or the canopies), the camera drops suddenly, which depending on the height of your camera, is not a pretty experience. Would it be possible for the camera to skirt around a hanging light, rather than plunging?
