Plot migration and why the housing problem persists, SE please start listening.

So me and the FC im in got into a little debate about housing and some valid points were brought up, i wanted to mention them here. Square Enix, you have a huge problem on your hands when it comes to those trying to purchase personal housing. But let me tell you a good way to fix this.

Plot migration:
It is a big issue and one that needs to be addressed, Here is why. If player A has a small house in Lavender Beds and you release a new housing area such as Shirogane, Player A then sees a new housing area thats far more appealing due to being a change in scenery or it just being the latest greatest thing.

The problem here is you're allowing the transfer of a house from Lavender Beds to Shirogane by player A, Thus player B who is working up the funds to buy the house player A is going for now is kinda SoL because that house is going to be taken for less.

It only gets worse when you factor in that everyone wants to transfer to the newest thing, thus those who want a house in the new housing areas constantly request you add more wards. Because transferring houses is clogging up the new wards you add.

So heres the fix, a very simple one that not alot of people will like but in my eyes is the only one you can realistically make to fix this situation you caused. Disable plot migration, make it so those who want a house in the new housing areas have to give up their old house and buy the new house at full price and like all the new housing shoppers have to remake things from the ground up.

Why? Because then and only then, will people really have to make the choice of "Is it worth losing 4.5 million gil just for a house in the new area or not?" and that is how it becomes fair for everyone involved.

Can't please everyone, ya know?

And why punish people who got a house originally? That's counterproductive when you're trying to make SE punish people who got something within the rules, and whom are still following said rules when relocating.

In short, nothing is fair for everyone. People have pointed out faults in the housing system again, and again, and again. This thread is just a drop in the bucket.

If they would have made instanced housing, and found a stable way to do so, many more people would be happy than anything that can be done with their current system. Though personally housing should be for Free Companies first and foremost due to how much can only be done with an FC, like crafting airship/submarines...

They can only, hopefully, learn from their past mistakes and try to make things better for others.

To clarify, its not punishing existing players. Its only me suggesting that those who wish to move have to make a choice to either stay where they are, or give up their house to buy the new one. Plot migration not existing would make that a harsh reality, Player A could not just move to the place player B wants for 75% less. They would have to pay full price for the new lot.

Cost of Relocation
When purchasing a plot for relocation, 30% of the minimum value of your old plot will be applied towards the price of the new one.

(Cost of Relocation) = (Destination Plot Price) – (30% of Old Plot Price)

* In the event reimbursement for the old plot exceeds the price of the destination plot, the cost of relocation will be waived. Please note, however, you will not receive gil for the amount that exceeds the cost of the destination plot.

The only way your '75% less' thing would come into effect is if someone downsizes their housing plot.

Who gave you the idea of it's 75% less?

It's 30% of the original lots. For a 50mil mansion, that's only about 15mil less. If you think 15mil will deter people who moving their mansion to a premium ward ... think again.

Anything less than a mansion the 30% saving is pretty much negligible. A 20mil Medium will only save about 6mil ... again, not gonna stop anyone gunning for a Shirogane lot.

If you want to talk about fairness, remember people who bought their house in the old area during 2.0 paid through their nose. I paid like 40mil for my Medium in Lavender back then.

I mean, it's obvious the housing situation in this game is less than ideal (i.e. terrible) but I personally think the relocation feature is one of the nicer things they've added.

Like you said- the fact of the matter is Shirogane is brand new and exciting with an aesthetic that appeals to a lot of players in this game. You could tack on a 1 million dollar moving fee to relocation instead of the discount and it would still be popular. People are going to want what they want and gil isn't going to deter many.

Not exactly true. Yes they get a "discount" moving, but they still paid full price for the initial house so the total cost of owning the "new" house is more. IE they still came up with the cash plus some more.

And as far as constantly asking for new wards... well duh, we are. It doesn't have to do with house transfers, it has to do with more people wanting a house than houses exist in the game. Until they release enough housing for everyone this isn't going to end.

Just to note, it's 30% of the originating plots lowest price. So for example that 20,000,000 medium mentioned by Raven would be 9,920,000 at minimum price which makes it a savings of 2,976,000 on the new plot. The person also does not get money back for the old plot so to move from medium plot A to medium plot B at the same price point they would have spent 37,024,000 (20m for the first plot and then about 17m on top of that to move to another plot of the same grade) while the person wanting to buy fresh spends only 20,000,000.

PS, not everyone who relocated moved to waifu town. Also, I paid for both my houses and the 'savings' of around 4 mil gil are pretty well unnoticed. The only reason you can pry relocation from my cold, dead fingers is because I do not have a spare 330 inventory spaces with which to move EVERY furnishing item I own.

Truth!
I moved to The Goblet - zero competition, got an awesome house with an amazing view~ Even after relocation, I still had to pay around 17mil for my medium house; I upgraded from a small and got practically nothing back from that, despite paying almost 4 mil for the plot.

I don't regret a thing.
