odd retainer behaviour

Steps:
In the past 2 days, I have noticed all my retainers suddenly have a small amount of gil on them I cannot determine the source of (it's small stuff, like between 200-700G, all different amounts). When I first saw it yesterday I just assumed I'd not taken out all the gil previously by mistake, but to go on to see it on every retainer in the last 2 days makes me think something else is up. There are no corresponding sales. I am unsure if they have the incorrect amount of gil from a previous sale, if some kind of audit has happened and adjustments made, or if this is a precurser to some kind of security incident.

I'm using a PS4 and a wired connection, I doubt it's relevant to the behaviour I've seen.

If you sell them items directly out of your inventory, like junk items, the transaction will not be listed. Could that be it?

If you vendor-sell items directly from your retainer's inventory, any gil earned will go to their gil storage, not yours. And there will not be any listed transactions for the incident.

So, for example, you sell a random Allagan Piece that your retainer has in his/her inventory (via "Have Retainer Sell Items" subcommand), all gil earned drops into their gil bank, not yours.

yes, that probably explains it, I have vendored a few items recently to clear them out.
