Server responce time? I was told not many understand this

Someone was explaining something to me, about how slow the game is and I wondered what exactly they meant. After they explained it with comparing it to something from ffxi it made sense. I do not get why I can one shot something, say outside a city and have other things link, or why I can still damage something already dead:

these things stopped moving right when they where killed. They do not walk up and hit you as you see the spell animation, or have things link with it like this game. Why is FFXIV so slow when FFXI doesn't have problems like that?

This is lag. The client (the game running on your PC or PS4) is showing what information you are plugging in and what's already been sent back from the servers.

When your info hits the servers, information get a bit crossed as the server has decided on a different outcome based all the other info it's gettimg from different players and clients, and weird little hiccups happen when it gets back to you.

Usually this has little to do with the game on either end of server or client, and is just someone's internet being slow.

FFXI has fewer issues as the game was designed with dial-up internet speeds in mind. It's built differently.

That's animation lock happening to the mandies first off. Second I can guarantee you that if he had been actively engaged with them before the final nuke, he would have likely taken a hit before the mob died. Cause the game would still be processing the attack before the death. And this game does the exact same thing. A mob can be dropped instantly if its hit hard enough and can get a swing off if its in the middle of attacking while dying. The exception to this is their telegraphed moves which can still display the animation (animation lock again) but they're dead so it didn't actually go off

And as for mobs linking, it's obviously built into the system that if you are overpowered for a zone it causes weaker mobs to link to your target. It does the same thing if you're in a party. Why is up to anyone's guess, perhaps the devs thought it would up the nonexistent danger factor

No, that is how it works in ffxiv, not ffxi>.>

I still play FFXI and have been hit by a mob as it died cause the killing blow came in after the attack, despite what the animations would tell you.

we are not taking about that, we are talking about the fact in ffxiv is slow, so slow that you can keep using CDs on dead monsters.

For FFxi, as you said it technically hit you before the killing blow, before you got to see the animation, that is different and more common when you factor in double attack and triple attack cuz it tries to process grapically those hits. In ffxiv though the monsters actually do actions with it dead already though, same is how you can keep damaging them.

So anyone able answer why FFXIV was built being so slow? and the idea is "server tics"?

If you're still using CDs on a dead monster that is lag then pure and simple. The animation and CD usage is usually canceled completely if it tried triggering after the monster's death. Ametrine already answered your question then. This game is hardly slow to respond on a decent connection. The exception was in 2.0 when their netcode was very obviously bad enough for them to change how often the servers ping you. You seem really intent on bashing this game today, maintenance got you that bored?
