Direct Hit Values

I noticed Ariyala doesn't have Direct Hit Values in the formulas for BiS. Do we know what these are for the respective jobs?

In terms of actual value, it's 39.05 direct hit rating per 1% direct hit.

If you're asking about stat weights, then it's about 8% stronger than determination point-for-point, but only in a vacuum. This game's stats don't work that way and are generally not nearly as relevant as people like to make them out to be because:

1) All of them are so close in value. Compared to, say, WoW where a secondary stat could be as much as 400% better than another, the biggest gap in FFXIV is ~60%.
2) Primary stats are so much stronger than secondaries you always choose ilvl over secondaries. (Tank accessories being an exception, or if you need to overmeld VIT for some reason on DPS accessories.)
3) You can't meld a stat on a piece of gear past a certain point.
4) There's so little choice in gear anyway. Two whole choices per slot! Except rings, where you have no choices and you just put in the 2 highest ilvl ones.

Also, some stats do not increase damage linearly. Crit affects both crit rate and damage. At low values of crit, Det and DH provide more benefit, but above a certain point crit takes the lead. Skill speed is even harder to calculate because the damage gain from increased attack rate is non-linear and depends on whether it actually lets you get in more attacks during a fight.

Stat weights are an approximation of nonlinear stats with linear equations. They are never completely accurate, though in the past they were close enough. With how close in value secondary stats are now though, that inaccuracy makes them a bad tool to compare gear.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing is more useful for comparing gear. It uses reverse engineered damage formulas to estimate the differences between pieces of gear. It does under-represent skill speed though, because it only calculates its effects on DoT ticks.

Since you're referencing monk, the stat weights change job to job, and as a monk, it's generally agreed that you should be stacking as much critical hit as possible in order to get more chances to proc a chakra, same with bard and their Repertoire procs.

After that, I've not seen a clear consensus as to which stat is the winner on each job, but as was mentioned, if you pick one and stick to it, it likely won't make a massive difference between one or another. I went with direct hit as my other secondary stat on monk because I like seeing the enormous numbers on a direct critical hit, but there's the argument that skill speed might be better since more hits more often means more chakras, and potentially more hits under Riddle of Fire.

You picked right -- direct hit is technically the second best, with determination coming in close after it.

The problem with Skillspeed is they made sure to have it boost autoattacks and DoTs, which was nice, but it still doesn't do anything for oGCD attacks. This is over 15% of a Monk's DPS (not counting TFC, since SS's added Chakra gains makes SS about as valuable for TFC as it is for other on-GCD skills). In addition, with too much SS you end up clipping Demolish early since they removed our filler weaponskills (rip Fracture and ToD). That said, SS isn't a bad stat for monk, it's just below Determination even with all that stuff considered.

Really it's pretty garbage for:
MCH (screws with overheat timing for wildfires),
Bard (mostly 'cause crit is just so bonkers good, but also because it has no effect on their plethora of oGCDs),
Dragoon (tons of oGCDs, also results in clipping buff/debuff/dot),
Ninja (mudra GCD clipping and heaps of oGCDs), and
Red Mage (timings on their gauge fillers).

I know some jobs do like themselves some SS, including BLM (who has no oGCDs) and Samurai (since their oGCDs are based off their Kenki gauge, which is directly boosted by SS use), and some like getting to a certain threshold (DRG has one, but IIRC it's really easy to hit, like one or two SS pieces which is damn near unavoidable anyway.)

Stat weights are obsolete.

I knew Monk preferred Crit and the least favored was Skill Speed. I made the mistake once in not itemizing Monk properly in ARR and had 1000 skill speed which was obscene at the time. I just threw random pieces of gear at my monk that were of the highest item level. I burned through all my TP with Invig in 90 seconds. I was just really trying to figure out what was the next best. If it was DH or Det.
