I'm a fan of complex mechanics, so I took an interest in machinist, but every where I look people are talking in somewhat vague terms about the machinist not being the best. I dont need to be the best, but I also don't want to be useless. Is the machinist so bad it's not worth playing, or will I just catch snide looks from fellow warriors of light?
A good Machinist is very much worth having around and has higher DPS than Bards, but is unreasonably dependent on good latency, so if you're playing at 180-200ms like me, you won't be able to even use the budget opener/Overheat rotation.
But if you have no problems with latency, go for it, do what I couldn't.

I wouldn't exactly call it's mechanics complex though. It pretty much has only one mechanic right now: Wildfire. After changes to the cooldown of barrel stabilizer and the overheat buff, heat is just another buff you use during Wildfire. As long as you're pressing everything the moment it becomes available to use, you'll never have to use Cooldown to manage your heat because you overheat every Wildfire and you won't overheat faster than the time between Wildfires.
