Omni-Crafters Vs. Specialist for a Casual crafter?

Heya, I may have asked this in the past, but I've forgotten all information and gotta ask again. I'm wanting to level some crafter classes so I can bit a bit more self sufficient, but I don't plan on being a serious crafter so I was wondering is the whole level every crafter to 70 still the best option or would the specialist be just as good?

I plan on leveling Weaver, Alchemist, and Culinarian so I can make my own potions and foods. Weaver since I usually play a caster of some sort and already have it at 50.

So should I go with leveling all crafters to max or just focus on the 3 and get their specialty crystals?

Having all crafts to 70 definitely provides the level of proficiency in order to make what you wish self sufficiently. Assuming you aren't talking about bleeding edge gear for your caster, but just standard support during the levelling process to 70, then indeed those 3 will be fine. The major issue I see you will encounter in this circumstance is when making gear on the Weaver class you will need materials across several classes such as Leatherworker and Goldsmith. These of course you can just buy from the market if you wish. Culinarian and Alchemist are lucky in the fact they're essentially one man army classes where base materials are rarely used from other classes.. Minus the grimoire/codex business.

I would strongly recommend picking up every class to 15 as a minumum, and attempt to make progress towards 50 ARM/BSM/CRP casually. This will provide you with Piece by Piece, and Ingenuity II, both really powerful skills to have.

If you don't wish to make the full investment which it sounds like, get them to the level you want to get them at, then go from there, if you find when you're at that level you're struggling then you can then make progress towards the others a little more seriously.

On a sidenote if you're able to get a class to around 60, then you will be able to get scrips fairly easily, which you can use to get Commercial Engineering Manuals. These are very good, particularly on lower levels.

Oh no, I don't plan on using Weaver for making gear unless I need to make crafting gear. It was more just to make Glam crystals. The main idea in me being self sufficient is making potions and food so I don't have to rely on the MB since on my sever it seems people don't make potions and food to sell, or at least don't make it at a reasonable price. So I figured I'd just make my own, similar to how I was an Alchemist in World of Warcraft and would make my own flasks and potions for raiding instead of buying them.

I agree with what Maria is saying here. Though I will admit that leveling all crafters to 70 would be a HUGE time investment, or spending lots of Gil through leve turn-ins unless you level Gathering classes along the way.

I’d also recommend at least getting other crafter classes up to levels where you could utilize their cross-class abilities, as they will have special cross-class abilities that are very useful when beginning to do level 70 crafts, as they can be utilized in specific rotations that will help you get HQ crafts more efficiently (ARM has Piece by Piece, ALC has Comfort Zone, CRP has Byregot’s Blessing, etc.)

That case if it's just for glamour crystals you'll be fine. As for potions and food, assuming you won't be making anything above Infusions (if we get higher), or Onigara-Yaki then you'll be fine strictly levelling just those 2. However if you wish to make stuff like Persimmon Leaf Sushi, again, I would at least aim for 50 ARM/15 BSM/50 CRP for that.

Oh, I'll at least have every craft job to 60 since I can do that via just casually doing the crafting beast tribe quests every day. I just didn't want to have to go from 60 to 70 since there isn't a crafting tribe yet to cover those levels.

After 60 there are no more cross class skills anyways so you will have full toolkit. :)

No Beast Tribe (yet) for those levels, but GC Daily hand-ins cover them quite nicely. And, apparently, so too do the weekly Deliveries. So, you can casually level them to 70 if you wish, even without a Beast Tribe.

If you're going to level three to 70, I'd just go all in. The thing about crafting and gathering in this game is that it's all interconnected. You have the skill sharing, yes, but also materials. No single class makes everything they need for that class. Culinary can be said to be the most independent of all the classes, but even that class requires some stuff made from other classes. You can't level only weaver, for example, and expect to make crafting gear independently. End game crafter gear requires gear made from WVR, LTW, CRP, and BSM/GSM/ARM/ALC (dependent on the class MH/OH) classes.

Beyond that, the ingredients all come from different classes. EG: crafter body 320 is a WVR recipe takes mats made from WVR, LTW, and ALC (plus desynth.) The helm is a WVR recipe that takes stuff from WVR, GSM, and ALC plus desynth. This isn't to mention the recipe books, the gathering of expensive materials, using of teas/foods, and gearing yourself. This is why endgame gear is expensive. It's a time consuming process.

If you want the easy, cheap way than do them all at once (including gatherers) with GC turn ins, the occasional leve, and the two beastie tribes (when you're high enough.) I did them in blocks. I'd do daily GCs for all the classes but would focus on one in 5 or 10 level increments. Get them all to 15 asap, then take an easier stroll with them. EG: they're all level 30 and I'd do the GC for all of them, but I'd use leves for WVR to get it to 40. By the time that was at 40, the rest would probably be 32 ~ 33. I did it slowly like to so I wouldn't burn out. Luckily, 60+ leveling is easy and fast.

If your goal is really just to make your own potions and food, you can very well only focus on those two. I'll just be repeating what others said but you are lucky because alchemist and culinarian don't need components coming from other craft. However, if you want to create some glamour, it is still a good idea to level other classes just to get the cross-class skills and be able to get everything yourself.
Plus, if you plan to go up to 60 but aren't that interested in crafting you own gear, you can sell the many materias you'll get along the way and earn a huge ton of gils.
