Can I stop messages from popping up over cutscenes?

Yesterday in the middle of a dramatic story cutscene I suddenly got a load of "X joined Linkshell" messages popping up in the middle of the screen, which is really jarring and disappointing. I think I've had similar issues previously with messages like "your item sold" and "your FC leader finalised an airship mission".

I barely need to know these things in the first place, beyond a note in the chat log, and certainly don't want them when I'm engaged in the story. Can they be switched off, and if so, how?
