They were occupied as far as Thanalan by Garlean forces and one could say that both sides in that conflict lost pretty handily to the Lambs of Dalamud when Bahamut was unleashed.

The Lambs of Dalamud, while worshiping the satellite cause crazy doomsday cults gonna be crazy, had nothing to do with it actually succeeding in touching down and hatching.

Could be argued war didn't end, just had a ceasefire in place. Similar to situation with North Korea for half a century.
