This is getting increasingly annoying - surely I'm not alone? (Craft Headaches)

Granted i'm certain you {omni}crafters are getting pro and can memorize everything but some of us have trouble keeping track of A,B,C......and Z?

What I'm getting at is when you pull up a crafting recipe...any recipe...that happens to have a material that is not craft-able - but a gather-able - you right click/push the button and what do you get?

"Search by craftable method" (or something to that affect)

Obviously its going to find nothing...its not a craft-able item..its a ingredient/material you have to GATHER. So why back out of 2-3 menus deep - only to go into a seperate set of menus that you can't stack on top of what you got going on just to find the bloody location of said material to harvest/gather from?

This would make my life so much easier - it takes less time to google/exit out/bounce around menus just to remember where the bloody hell to get said item at to craft said item. Yes I accept the fact that you will eventually memorize the locations - but some of us don't have quite perfect memory lol.

Bottom line - feature request - this would make life for crafting up-and-comers lives easier if we can search for gathering item in the log if we are crafting an item with a material needs to be mined/harvested.

Any comments suggestions?

Example above - Distilled water- which requires muddy water - which is not something you craft - its something you gather - but what do you see? Yeah....annoying. If you hit the command - nothing shows up of course...cause its not a crafting item.

I would love if that search would automatically did the following:
1. If crafted, display crafted results. If multiple crafter results are found and you are currently on one of the found class, pre-select that one. The number of times I am ARM and search for Ingot recipe and it pre-selects the BSM is just annoying.
2. If a base material and is gatherable and you have not unlocked it, write out nothing can be found.
3. If a base material and is gatherable and you have unlocked it, write out the information from the gathering log (similar to item search results). This would allow the crafter to mentally choose, I could gather this or I could buy it from the MB.
4. If a base material and not gatherable (i.e. verity, GC company, unique vendor purchase, mob/boss drop only, etc...), write out nothing can be found. This way people are still rewarded on MB (selling said item) for doing their research and putting in the effort.

I am a veteran crafter, but sometimes I am doing levekits from someone and I have come out crafting log to gatherer log... I would love a system that would tell me if the item is gatherable if it's a tomestone material or it comes from a vendor like Artisan/forager/ironworks gear.

In case you didn’t know you can pull up the gathering log and use the search function there. Those features were a huge QoL when they were implemented. I wouldn’t mind some extra labeling or icon that gave you a heads up. I would just wonder what happens in cases where items have multiple places they can be acquired. Adamantite nuggets are craft able, drop from maps, can be purchased at the curious crop exchange, gathered at a timed node(ore), and purchased with steel spoils. There are many items that fall in this trap and it would be interesting if they wanted to show that or simply put (gather-able by the ore)

I do use the gathering log search function, this is a quality of life thing being asked for. We are in the crafting menu and already searching, having to go to another menu and search again is just a pain. And before you say have them both open at at the same time, in the console interface this is just terrible. Resulting is the closing crafting menu, the opening the gathering menu and performing the search. And of course, you forget how to spell the damn item name, have to return to the crafting menu to get the spelling, then return to the gathering menu and do the search again.

Also, if the item is sellable on the MB, and "Add to MB wish list" would be a nice menu item.

Sorry if I wasn’t clear, I am in support of adding more QoL to the crafting interface. I wasn’t suggesting the opposite, I just was asking (towards devs) would other sources for the same materials be shown? Such as diadem mats, those are gather-able but you probably can only buy them with red scrips. (Rip diadem) I wouldn’t want this labeling to be added and mislead newer players.

I have been crafting since ARR and I am always excited to see expansions on crafting and QoL changes. Memorizing everything was a pain, ironically because of the lack of search functions I have memorized almost every item in the game. Do I think all crafters need to do that? Heck no, gives us some QoL. xD

Hmmm well that is the whole purpose to crafting. To see where you can gather it you at a minimum need to have discovered it. Same for some of the retainers. They can;t farm it if you haven't been discovered. As a Veteran in Crafting I would think that you at a minimum have DoL all 3 mastered. You can actually get info on some items on where they are located once you have uncovered them with the exception of Legendary books that are needed. When I started out I leveled as I progressed. It's easier to start with DoL and get HQ items to make your crafting easier. Have a friend to craft gear and so on. If you want to focus on just DoH you will need to master the art of the market Board, have some access to Airships, (helps if you are a FC master or have a decent FC , and or garden. )

Other options that may help is de-synthesis or getting materials through seals. There is a search option for them if your on PC is easier though.

Crafting is not hard and pretty easy if you take the time and effort into learning about it.

Now if you like to be one of those cup cake generations where everyone feels they should be rewarded for just trying Good Luck with that.

My husband was just telling me this same thing yesterday, that he'd love a "Search by Gathering" option.

Of course if it was even smarter to search for both and show whichever was relevant would be nice too.
Or if they completely revamped the search feature to use a database (lodestone database maybe?) to show more methods. There are some gatherable/craftable items that can also be bought from NPCs, others that are dropped by monsters/instance rewards, etc..

But starting with just a quick way to search though the gathering log would definitely be a good start!

Best thing is to just go to each region and uncover all. DoL have a an action to detect areas , use vision enhancement and you should be good. Inthe long run with retainers you will need to do it anyways.
