World Distribution vs Datacenter Distribution.

Hi all, i actually had a few questions regarding this for some time now and have been reluctant to bring it up due to the locks causing an uproar but i thought it would be a good time to ask as 4.2 is right around the corner.

Balmung player population atm under https://ffxivcensus.com/#realmactive registers 13,767 characters active as of now. With that in mind i have noticed most if not all of the highest active populated NA servers reside on the Aether Datacenter.

Balmung is still locked out, that has not changed.

With that in mind however, this is where my curiosity comes into play. Leviathan registers as 12,741 active characters and has no lock what so ever. Even new characters can be made on the server, though it is located on the Primal Datacenter.

So to the question then, In terms of World Distribution and lockout. Is it purely based on the world? or the overall population of the Datacenter?

You have to remember, that, while Levi shows that amount, there is also likely to me more people on Balmung with characters that are not picked up by the census due to roleplaying, and not needing to be caught up on story to roleplay.

SE will have accurate data on how many characters are active, while the census is very inaccurate.

This. Census are often made based on how many people finished certain part of the MSQ, how many people beated certain fight or how many people belongs to a Grand Company, to tell some examples. Roleplayers generally doesn’t count because they only need (I guess) to learn teleport between the main cities and maybe some other little thing, so probably the population of Balmung specifically can even be the double of that. As Valkyrie said, SE has more accurate info about it.

There's also the content lull to consider as well, some may have put down the game until 4.2 releases. So the December census may have some large outliers that haven't been counted.

IMO if and when they do unlock Balmung, it might be best to unlock it how they locked it, in the dark of the night, in order to avoid a massive flood of returning and new characters.
