XI and XIV no consider FF becouse MMO? What?

So had small argument, someone was telling me XIV and XI aren't considered FF becouse they MMO? This sound retarded... but I'm I missing something here? Since when does being MMO mean you don't count on a game franchise? .-.
I thought of ignoring it but I keep thinking about it lol

Sounds like you were talking to someone who is just very hostile with their opinions ( guessing based on you keep thinking about this ). My guess is they just don't like MMORPGs so they "refuse to ackowledge them". That's the only thing I could possibly think of that would make someone say this....

XI and XIV are indeed a part of the series with their own unique characters and storylines. I really don't think this is up for debate either. They have all the aspects that make every other FF title uniquely FF.

Who ever said this is wrong. They may be MMOs but they are still part of the main, numeric series. It's a fact that can't really be argued...

Well, obviously they are both ff games since they have final fantasy in the title. However, I also don't think there's anything wrong with having the opinion that certain games in a series don't "count". If a game feels or plays too differently from other games that carry the same name then there are going to be people that don't see them as true members of the series.

Personally I've really never ventured into the world of final fantasy in any other game, but I know there have been other game series where a game will come along and I'm just like "eh no, this one doesn't feel like it fits/it's not a true x." Just because something technically belongs to a series doesn't mean everyone who enjoys said series is going to personally see it that way, and that's fine imo. Maybe whatever made them enjoy other games in the series is just not present in one of the games so to them it's just an outlier that doesn't belong.

Every FF game reinvents the series and every game feels different than its predecessors. There are a few common themes throughout most of them though; such as chocobos, Cid, Science and Magic coexisting, usually some crystals and a warrior of light too. But yes, the MMO FF games do count, saying otherwise is wrong. Someone may not like it but that doesn't stop it from being true.

Now if you wanted a discussion about spin-off series being a true FF game then you can argue if it counts or not...but thats a different thread.

Sure, it's called Final Fantasy and it has a number after it, so yeah, just based on that, technically no one can argue that it doesn't count. I'm of the opinion that just because a game is presented by the developer as part of the "main" series, doesn't mean the game is going to have that main series feel to some people. I've felt that way about some games. Like I said, I can't and don't have that opinion on this game since this is the only final fantasy I've played, but I can see where someone who thinks that way is coming from. I don't think that anyone who says things like x game isn't really part of x main series (when the game is clearly presented and numbered as such) means it literally, they just mean to them that game doens't count.

I'd also say both XI and XIV count as main series FF titles.
Both have, in my opinion, that "Final Fantasy" feeling. Which for me is a good story, a nice setting/world and jobs.

I know there are some people who don't consider them part of the main series or FF series in general. Just an MMO with "Final Fantasy" slapped onto it. But most of them are not even willing to give the games a chance just because it's an MMO, and therefor it doesn't fit with the main titles. At least that's what I got as a response.

Pretty much this. If you judged the series purely by mechanics then we'd be throwing a good bulk of the titles out into the trash. FF10-2, FF12, FF13, and FF15 in particular would not survive that culling when compared to past titles. All that said, they're part of the main series. Final Fantasy tends to have games with self contained narratives that rarely co-exist for this very reason with only a few exceptions. The most notable being FF10 and FF7 sharing ties via Shinra, and where it's pretty much all but outright stated that his descendants would later go on to found the Shinra company on a distant planet. However the way they write those ties are so loose at best that it really doesn't hurt any of the previous titles. Ending up more as fun little trivia for the super fan than anything else. Ergo even if MMO's somehow end up influencing future titles it'll likely only be in a minor 'nod' that won't upset anyone.

Really at the end of the day though, what does it matter if they're seen as part of the main line series? It hardly hurts anything and it's not as if you need to play either to gain series comprehension going forward.

I don't agree. They're consider as Final Fantasy regardless the gameplay type. Yes, they have a timeline and they will die in he end because is a pure service game, but they are still part of the main franchise. Numerical value will gave you the hint. Spin off usually have subtitles (such a Crisis Core, Type 0 , etc). It is true that both FFXI and FFXIV have it too, but this is to mark where in the story progression (expansion) they are actually.

There a re a lot of people who are stubborn and say that "Final Fantasy dies in the X" (other more fanatics says in the IX). And trends to refuse and attack any new Final Fantasy after the X. And even insult and consider "not true fans" anyone who says that news are good games too.

In my opinion, of the post X Final Fantasy games, FFXIV is the one which more FF appeal to me.
