Petition to have the right to post about players in our community

I recently had a post made in the Besaid forum warning my fellow members about a particular player who is downright out-of-his-mind rude, selfish, and offensive.

I see no reason why our server forums should not allow us to discuss reputations earned in-game. Failure to take accountability for these actions as a person is what allows that personality to thrive. Anonymity be damned, you are responsible for your words and actions.

Being spammed and attacked in-game is not the only thing that we should be able to demand recourse for.

I can see how SE would see this as counter-intuitive towards creating a large subscription base, and impact sales. On the same token, I can see how the lack of moderation of these forums and involvement of GMs in-game have filled peoples heads with the idea that they can say and do whatever they please.

Online experiences may differ from the ESRB rating indeed.

A player being told to kill themselves, or called racial slurs, being discriminated against and attacked because of heritage or homeland, or anything affiliated with this is considered criminal in many, many places. The internet is no exception. Why here?

Preventing flame wars is fine. Edit posts, warn/ban users, or lock topics. Delete them? Why?

I see this as one major reason not to invest my time or money in a product, and it's hardly a heavy workload.

I posted the aforementioned thread at approx. 2 A.M. EST and it got so many replies it was on the Hot Topics section. The general consensus was that people agree about this individual, and have had similar experiences. Why should 20 people have to dislike and or /blacklist a member of our community just to escape a trouble makers antics, when dealing with this problem should be SE's job. Yes, I reported it. Yes, I /blisted him. Yes, I posted evidence of it. Now it's gone.

And while I liked your post, also I'm a jackass to some people here but I agree being a racist prick just because is a retarded thing to do but anyway, none of those things are actually illegal on the internet, they're frowned upon by most communities and majority of forums/sites tend to ban and block such kinds of acts but they're not actually illegal, contrary to popular belief internet has no law, its only people in it that chose to enforce the ones from the country they're located in to keep their own ass out of trouble because they are still liable for content on their site.

I remember pillory and public crucifixion was things of late miggle age :X and quite out of place in every corner of an official forum.

This exemplifies the horribly American addage "Its only fun until someone gets hurt, then it becomes hilarious."

Why should slander of any kind be amusing to anyone? I understand that you feel compelled to forewarn your community members of the supposed verbal abuse you claim this player has caused but that is exactly what a blacklist is for. If you dont like the way in which a member of your community thinks and or expresses himself simply blacklist them instead of making a scandalous public afair. You could easily post screenshots but this is frowned upon for the very reason that screenshots can be edited and modified, in which case the integrity of both parties becomes suspect and no one can deduce with certainty who is telling the truth or the lies.

Be thankfull that for the moment being no one can abuse a soon to come need/greed/pass loot system by rolling "need" on an item said player does not honestly need, for this was one of the primary causes of blacklisting in FFXI as ell as a great source of stress for many players who have invested their hard earned time.

Did he insult you rly that much that you go rampage on the forums now?
Report him to GMs and /blacklist him. Maybe he had a bad day. If not and he insults everyone like that, he will get report quite often and get blocked or banned by GMs or whatever.

I know that, and I respect your point, but I didn't say the internet. I meant physical places, and they are illegal in those places. As they should be. Intolerance is a pretty big issue. As for the liability, SE needs to take some.

They're still pretty commonplace today, but not so much sticks and spikes and stones. I fail to see how outing someone for their behavior is tantamount to crucifixion, but I see the parallels you've drawn. The problem is that GMs generally don't do anything about these types of issues. I've already followed the standard procedure though, as I stated.

Maybe they don't want to lose that one sub, but that's almost pathetically desperate.

Flaming someone is not the same thing is expressing concerns and sharing encounters with others of ones server. Flames need to be put out. Maybe they just don't want to increase their forum workload by actually moderating it? Well, other than protecting them from being "Liable" and deleting threads like mine.

If you know of a "Official unofficial" website with a forum like there was for FFXI for these kinds of things, (which seriously helped keep people respectful and civil for the most part) then please, share with the class!

Slander: a malicious, false, and defamatory statement or report

Accountability may not be important to you, but it is to me. That's just how it's going to be.

Also, I've expressed negative sentiments about typical Americanisms myself, and being American, it's really easy to do, but I honestly can't stand when someone on the internet starts throwing it out there as a weight for their point. It's typical of people, and not one nation. That adage is actually a really bad example of this case, imo.

On-Topic: Threads about people behaving this way wouldn't be necessary if the GMs would do their job. When someone goes around harassing others and the person doesn't get banned for it, people need to know that that person is someone who you don't want to be around. If I was a new player and my first party experience ended with me getting harassed, then I reported him and still saw him around, I'd probably quit honestly. Something needs to be done, and if the GMs won't do it, it's up to the players themselves to warn others.
