What sort of lies and perfidy from the time of the Allagan Empire are so important that we are now collecting Tomestones of Mendacity?
So the theory of the trial series being based on the Four Symbols was right. Ayy.
... more when I get home, whenever that is.
I could not watch: Are there any clues to what bosses are in Sigmascape? Anything from another Final Fantasy? I am hoping each Omega features bosses from a different one.
And Four Lords with a white tiger? I am predicting a Black turtle, a Red Bird, and a Blue Dragon since, you know, Chinese mythology, lots of anime, and Final Fantasy XI and XII mark a precedent.
And Tomestones of Mendacity are an interesting choice. The value of tomestones was always what they could tell us about the Allagan Empire. Its way of making war (soldiery), its arts (poetics), its beliefs (scripture, verity, philosophy, creation). I guess you can learn a lot about a culture by what it lies about, but it's funny they would be labelled like that :p
EDIT: And the Four Gods played a huge part in the excellent but oft-forgotten Final Fantasy Type-0. I am actually surprised it took them this long to include, though given the Geomancy/Astrology aspects of the Astrologian quests in 4.0, it makes sense to have them now.
I'm curious as to how the patch's name is going to play into things.
Mostly whether it's just figuratively referring to the start of a new age in Doma's history, or if there's a more literal interpretation to it. The only mention of a "sun" we've had in lore would be Azim, so perhaps the steppe could be more involved in this part of the MSQ then I expected.
Well, we know the Allagan Empire was dealing with rebels who wanted to dethrone Xande after Amon brought him back. So anything the rebels came up with would probably be declared to not be the truth (Mendacity) by Amon and Co. I could easily see Verity (truth) being Allagan state-okayed files while Mendacity (lies) are files they denounce.
That's a fair point. It's also very likely to refer to more than one thing as patch titles are liable to do. I believe that 'Sun' may also refer to Hien and what he represents for Doma. It also may play into Omega somehow.
Ultimately, though, I think you're on the right track. The Azim Steppes received overwhelmingly positive feedback from what I've seen on various sites and Hien is tied rather heavily to the Xaela. I think the MSQ will definitely take us back there and this seems like the perfect time to do so.
So I predict that whilst 4.1 focused mainly on Ala Mhigo and Ul'dah we'll be seeing 4.2 revolve around Doma and the The Azim Steppes. I also think that Kugane is likely to receive focus in every single content patch.
