role skill for scholar....???

... which one i should pick for my healer? unlike smn which have too few too pick, sch have alot i want to fit into my list

i pick cleric stance, largesse, switfcast, lucid dream, and E4E, the most arguement is the protect and esuna, i think i read somewhere about a marco which allow us to quick swap protect for a buff outside of the battle, but still is this better to keep protect around incase someone die mid fight and need to apply protect when they get up? does that cure from selene is good to complete ignore some usefulness of esuna? please enlight me

Ideally you'd be adjusting your role skills according to each fight :)

The ones you'll usually want for most content are: Swiftcast, Largesse and Lucid Dreaming.

The other two slots you can use to adapt to both the fight and your co-healer, if applicable.

For example if you're about to go into an instance where there's no debuffs that can be disppeled, you can swap out Esuna for something more useful, like cleric stance. If your co healer has Protect slotted in, you both could decide that it's not worth for the two healers to have it, and you could opt for Eye for an Eye (if you ever choose E4E though, note that it's not an "immediate" defensive cooldown on the target, like Palisade is for BRD/MCH - it has a chance to PROC, and if it procs for a target it'll lower their damage done by 10% for 10s).

I don't count on Selene's dispel too much, as when I'm playing SCH I use Eos mostly, so I just equip Esuna if I need it (for example in Rabanastre I equip Esuna ONLY for Rofocale and Hashmal, for the first and last I swap it out for something else).

For protect you can indeed use it at the start of the run and the swap it out using a macro (in this thread is an example of that kind of macro).

I always keep Esuna on, because I always forget to put it back if I remove it until after debuffs start coming out, and nothing that can go there is particularly worth the hassle anyway.

Protect is best handled with a macro like the one linked above. It does mean you can't recast it in combat, but that doesn't matter most of the time anyway.

Lucid Dreaming and Swiftcast are a must. I then use Cleric Stance, Largesse and Eye for an Eye. I swap out E4E for whatever is needed in the fight, e.g. Surecast on Exdeath.

As for Esuna, I generally don't ever put it on my hotbar. Reason being most content doesn't require it, and the content that does generally doesn't require the extra healing Eos brings anyway. So I usually have Selene out for her AoE cleanse. Protect as a Macro is good, providing at least your co-healer has it to apply after deaths. If not, again I'd probably consider dropping E4E for it.

Yes, the Esuna skill... there has been many times i forget to turn it on, literally had to summon Selene once so it could dispell Doom in o4, cause the WHM paired with me did not have it either.
As for Protect i always keep it, because i tend to meet lazy co-healers, who can cast protect before pull, but when someone dies - they never recast it on them.
So, my setup - Protect, Swiftcast, Lucid Dreaming, Largesse, Surecast (been too much Shinryu ex farming x_x). Eye for an Eye i removed forever, i don't heal in dungeons anymore, and in raids its value is pretty low (close to 0), cause even under deployment tactics whole party being hit by raid-wide aoe - i never saw debuff applying on boss from this skill.

If you're using the Protect swap macro, you *can't* cast it on them in combat. Swapping doesn't work in combat. So it's not a "lazy" issue.

I'm no SCH main anymore but I'm not a huge fan of Largresse on SCH. It doesn't impact Lustrate and Indom which are (apart from Eos) my most frequently used healing abilities.

The only things I would call "necessary" are Swiftcast and Lucid Dreaming.

Esuna is good to bring into a situation you know you're going to need it or if you're going into an unknown situation like running something blind.

Protect is basically a necessity but as Tridus said it can be macro'd. Honestly I don't bring it in content where I have a cohealer as a WHM, I expect to do most of the raising and big AoE healing so I'd expect my cohealer to have this.

Break is virtually useless outside of a very specific situation - basically if you're looking to maximize your GCDs for the sake of DPS but don't have MP to spend Break fills that spot quite nicely. I heard the AST who first solo healed O4S used Break in this manner. If you aren't solo healing Savage I would skip it.

Cleric Stance is great but also 100% skippable because the DPS bump is so small. I've outdpsed plenty of cohealers who have it slotted when I didn't simply by maximizing my DoT uptime and making good use of oGCD heals.

Surecast is great sometimes (Shin EX) to the point of basically being mandatory and then virtually useless in the vast majority of content. This is the single best argument I see for remaining flexible with your role actions.

E4E is obviously best taken by a SCH so that it could be spread to both tanks in an add situation with deployment tactics. That being said I don't count the as a necessity in most situations.

Rescue is... fun? I try to troll my friend with it sometimes in Rabanastre. It usually backfires and winds up helping him. It is occasionally used for serious play but mostly is there to annoy people. Do with that what you will.

As for a general set for SCH? If using the macro to swap Protect and Esuna that will be slot one. Swiftcast is next. Lucid Dreaming after that. Then I'd grab E4E. I'd probably go Cleric after that. Also if you don't have a protect/esuna swapping macro or don't like macros I'd take both and leave off Cleric.

As to this mini discussion on reapplying protect... I just don't see why in most casual content. If someone dies while I'm healing it's generally because they ate avoidable damage. Tossing protect on them probably isn't going to save them if they decide to do that again. I'd rather spend that GCD on throwing a rock.

Largesse is very, very fight dependent. For anything that involves Duty Finder, you can pretty much forget about Largesse because it's gonna be sitting in your hotbar unused. This is specially true in dungeons where most of your healing will rely on Whispering Dawn, Embrace, Fey Union, Excog and Lustrate. For some fights in Savage content it's a good spell for shielding particularly punishing attacks, but other than that you don't need it for anything else.

Cleric Stance, Swiftcast and Lucid Dreaming are the most important picks for me.

For 24-mans I slot in Rescue, since it can help in mechanics where the alliance is split by parties to pull people who are unaware of their surroundings. Esuna is very content dependent, but you have Fey Caress for that -a quick fairy swap will cover it. E4E is kinda useful in dungeons, but it's a bit "meh" overall. Surecast is only ever truly useful in Exdeath Savage and arguably in Shinryu EX.

As for Protect, it's only ever actually useful on the tanks when talking about most DF content. Most things that hit people won't one-shot them unless we're talking Savage content.

On my SCH i always have lucid, swift, cleric stance and largesse. The last spot is depended in fight.
