DRG Question on stats

Hi all, thanks in advance for any help. When it comes to gear I get confused on how much certain stats mean over others and how much secondary stats mean over primary stats.

With patch 4.18 I\\\\\\'m trying to decide if I should upgrade to the 340 Lance for instance.

Here are the stats:
Str-301
Vit-319
Det-273
SS-273

However I already have the Shinryu Lance at 335 and the secondary stats are much better:

Str-293
Vit-308
Crit-270
Direct hit-189

It looks to me that the Shinryu Lance would be better based on the secondary stats but again I\\\\\\'m not 100% sure. Could anyone elaborate for me please and let me know what would be better for straight dps and why.?

But from what I've learnt, players are more keen on 2ndary attributes.. for DRG it goes like direct hit>critical hit> determination.. cus they increase dmg output more significantly..

I think the problem with primary attribute is that it needs a high jump before you can feel decent increase in output, eg. 30str for 1weapon dmg? (Not entirely sure how it work)

So i dont know if anyone has the exact answer you seek regarding stat weights. I know that the weights are different for each class, and i know that they can change between patches(typically big moves are associated with a new expansion). For a general guideline though, ive got a few tips. Weapon damage is by far the most important stat. A point of damage is still probly worth 10-20 of your main stat(Str in your case). About a year ago(the last time i read rigorous weight calculations) weights on secondary stats were usually between 1/50 and 1/75th of a point each(meaning that 50-75 crit/det/etc was worth 1 str/dex/etc). So if we use roughly 1/50th as our guideline for a favored secondary stat, the favorable crit and direct on the Shin lance would be worth around 9 points of Str. Using the 1/75th estimate for non-favored stats then, the det and ss on the 340 are probly worth closer to 3 points(i know speed in partcular isnt typically prized by dragoons). So the secondaries on the shin are probly 6 points better overall. That almost cancels out the 8 extra str directly on the 340, but the 340 having an extra point of damage seals it as almost certainly the better weapon.

An easier way to look at it. The damage stat is how hard your weapon hits. As it hits harder, the effects of DH Crit and Det grow stronger(a bigger base damage to enhance). So when in doubt, take the better damage number.

Editors note: I do not actually play Dragoon, so if someone with experience and/or who has taken the time to test this out wants to correct me feel free. This is meant as a guideline.

When it comes to weapons, weapon damage is a VERY strong stat. The 340 weapon is 99 damage and 301STR, while the 335 weapon is 98 damage and 293STR. That 1DMG and 8STR difference is likely to outweigh the weaker secondary stats, but as a primary BRD, I can't say that for absolute certainty for a DRG (nor do I know where to look up such information).

Hopefully that answer is halfway decent while you wait for someone more qualified to answer.

Shoot, I basically said the same thing that the person above me said, but with less detail. I should've read more.

According to Orinx's Gear Comparison Sheet the 335 weapon will yield roughly 0.4% more straight damage on average, and 1.2% less damage from dots when compared in a vacuum (based on your gearset on lodestone). Overall a very slight dps gain.

edit: this will increase depending on party comp; sch and brd will both increase the value of crit on the weapon slightly. Also to note, the calculator doesn't calculate any extra damage you might get from extra hits due to ss.

It really depends on what type of DRG you are. Most are all about DPS total and some like a more SS set. Personally it is up to you and the only advice I can recommend is play based on your style. We can all give you our input and for the most part we will say based on your gear, weapon, and melds focus on higher DMG out put which makes sense based on perspective. My personal preference is keep high dmg and critical and decent skill speed. If you want to be more balance however focus on DMG / Critical / determination/ and use good quality food when needed to compensate for speed or vise a versa. Just remember have fun.

Great guide.. thanks for sharing! I'm not very keen on Crit > DH tho, simply because DRG SS is low compare to other melee DPS classes, to take the average, I think DH lands more often than Crit..
