I miss the old FATE groups (META events?)

I would like to see something to spruce up this portion of the game. I am not suggesting 30-40 player trains, but something rewarding and modern enough that you could expect to find a group or two 3-8 people in size in a zone perhaps. I am also not proposing getting rid of other leveling methods such as POTD AT ALL.
I really like open world gaming and meta events I think would be a good method to get this aspect of the game active again. Chaining FATES together over the course of say 1-2 hours and then a FATE spawns that is a big deal and offers significant "something" hunt seals, tombs, straight gil, special glam's, I don't know...
