Potentially silly newbie gardener question

Hi. I'm just getting into gardening, and I'm a bit confused by how I get seeds. I know I can get them from botany and such. But, say I want almond seeds.

What can I grow to get those? I thought almonds were an obvious choice, but none of my almond plants had seeds. Is the only way to grow seeds by crossbreeding, or did I just get unlucky or something?

Siniztor is right about about that site for gardening in general (also http://xivdb.com/ can help for locating seed gathering locations and http://www.ffxivclock.com is good for tracking time-sensitive gathering nodes.)

To your specific question though, almond seeds are gathered from the trees just south of Wineport in E. La Noscea. They are a rare spawn from the same trees that give almonds, but you can help 'force' them to spawn by using Leaf Turn III to force gather 3 HQ items in a row to proc Luck of the Pioneer and force seeds to show up. However if there are more than one type of rare seed that can spawn on that node, you'll only get one of them and as far as I can tell it's random which it'll be.

Also dont forget once you gather a seed you then can send your botney retainer after them (if there the right level) once per hour :)

Yeah that's proving super useful. :D

You can also go around, take out your axe and then not collect anything from the tree and move on to the next. I found this out after a little trial and error. After touching enough gathering nodes, new ones will spawn. This way you can collect hidden seeds a little bit faster.

This is what I do when collecting the extra item nodes for Rowena's House of Splendors or HQ nodes for crafting/company seals.

Just wanna add your question is in no way silly.. Its refreshing to see someone asking for help in this forum rather then all the bickering so thanks for the question :)
