I don't think I've seen any of the people that were actually progging complain about lag... Cept one JPN group that I watched a few days ago... But ok!! Pft
(They are talking ping, not lag spikes)
Since the game isnt client side, all auto attacks are in a constant state of checking if ur still within range/means to auto attack, and delay the dmg by the response from ur client to the server.
This has always been the case with all eastern based MMOs, because their ping is anywhere from single digits to 30 ping if ur "slow"
yoshida even stated ppl should be more considerate of their teamates and not play an MMo if ur seeing pings upward towards of 100ms.
which most westerners have roughly between 80ms-150ms (I usually see between 90-110ms myself)
there is a reason western MMOs are more client side.
there is a reason eastern MMOs arent.
Chances are, this difference is never going to make or break your average play session.
But, in Ultimate, it technically is far more likely to happen since fights drag on longer, requiring consistent perfection, with no checkpoints (and rightfully so). When the server updates every 10th of a second, and on ur side, u were within safety, and on their end, u werent, and the difference was 50ms.
Well, there was this Rescue play.

...Which is absolutely not possible to pull off outside of Japan since NA/EU servers essentially add an extra 0.25-0.5 second delay to it, so there's that.
I really hope we're not going to say ping is why NA didn't make world first...
I'd have no idea, as I don't play with less than 30ms ping.
I do notice a difference between 100~ms and 150ms, as Im unable to fit 1 GCD, and 2 oGCDs at the start of most boss fights, putting my burst phase until after mechanics happen, as thats when mechanics happen every single fight.
As for the rest of the fight, its a bit more randomized for me to say how much it does or doesnt affect me.
(I also think the less ping i have from 100, the less noticeable the effect will be, but the greater the ping is over 100, the greater the effect will be.)
Speaking as someone who went from 90-120 ms to 20-30 ms with the server relocation... Depending on the job you play as and your personal skill level, it makes a world of difference. Back in Heavensward, it was the difference between being able to fit in one whole extra GCD in my 20 second opener as a Bard. Meanwhile, other Bards from other raid groups that I knew that went from ~50 ms to 120+ as a result of the server move could no longer use Bloodletter or Feint double oGCD weave without it clipping into their GCDs during HW. And considering how much more button-mashy Bard is in SB compared to HW, lord knows how much of a bigger advantage I have over other Bards as a result.
Most people won't feel the difference, but it's everything to high-tier raiders.
Its sad NA and EU teams have a slight disadvantage because "Ping" is a thing.
It's not to far from the truth though, Ping is the difference between Hallowed Ground being instant or delayed just enough to kill you.
