Understanding your limit break

4 types of limit breaks

first types is range lmit break or mulit target limit break this is done by machinist/bard
with this limit break you shoot mulitly targets in straight line such Zenos swords or portal in world of darkness
the second AOE limit break done by mages this in target aoe mass damage limit break

3rd is Melee limit break single target limit break mass damage on one target

4th Tank shield the party with his tank limit break!

Last is healer a last resort raise everyone healing

Forgetting the rare tank lb to shield the party from an otherwise lethal raidwide attack

As a bard i don't have to understand anything ( but i do ) cause 99.9% of the time i will not be the one using LB .. :0

I'm going to add here that only Healer LB3 can raise everyone it hits. Healer LB2 and LB1 doesn't have a raise effect to it and only heals.

Additionally, with Healer LB3:

• A player who has no death penalty debuff who died and then raised with LB3 will not acquire a Weakened debuff
• A player who has a Weakened debuff and died and then raised with healer LB3 won't suffer from Brink of Death Status

Another point: the power of a limit break depends on the entire party and is not affected by damage buffs.

For shame. I was hopeful this would actually be a PSA on how the LB actually stack up and explain how damage is worked out. I wasn't expecting to be told information the game gives you at level 15... the stuff everyone knows. Bah!

Ok, so to fill in the massive blanks here...

A limit break has a varying potency based on the Type of job using it. Damage is modified based on a few factors. The baseline damage** is further calculated taking the AVERAGE OF THE COMBINED ILVL OF THE PARTY'S WEAPONS. From there, and LB does increased damage based on the obvious 1/2/3 bars used. This damage also is unaffected by any buffs you have or debuffs the enemy has. No Trick attack shenanigans here!

As for tanks and healers, those are much more obvious to use. Healers are a party-wide heal leading to the full-party rez in their LB3. There's always generally a use for a healer LB3 in alliances raids or in progression. Only LB3 will rez, and the rez component Will not APPLY a weakness stack. However, it will not CLEANSE a weakness already suffered.

Tank LBs purely reduces more and more damage to the party. When in competiton with DPS LB doing a ton of damage, or a healer LB saving the group, its hard for a tank LB to have any use. It CAN save a group. it's not USELESS. There are also fights such as Alexander 12 Normal and Savage that REQUIRE Tank LB3. Though simply reducing damage is far less useful than killing the thing or rezzing the party.




**Baseline potency is Melee (Single target) > Ranged Caster (Ground Target AoE) > Ranged Physical (Line AoE) > Tanks=Healers. The baseline damage is purely based on this. A SAM's Braver is no more powerful than a DRGs. A BLM's Meteor isn't stronger than a RDM's. etc, etc.

I've also personally seen some conflicting information about if base potency for Caster or Physical does more damage. More information seems to point that Caster's has a higher base potency. The circle ground AoE is also considered superior to the Line AoE. Generally a Caster will be seen as "better" than BRD/MCH. I don't have a hard source about which is actually higher base potency, so take this information with a grain of salt.

A new player that know what zenos' sword is or WoD mechanics would also likely understand that LBs do different things.

I think the biggest problem right now with LBs is when people forget to use them, or do and others get uppity. I've seen people lose their minds when a tank uses LB2 at 1% of a boss HP bar because it's "useless". neverminding the fact the boss would have died before any DPS LB would have gone off. I've even been personally yelled at because I dared to use Caster LB1 on trash mobs because I need to "save it for the melee on bosses".

I just think we should give new players a LITTLE more credit that they understand there are different types of LBs and then explain how each is used/perceived as well. Thats before we even get into the not so new players that go back and forth between caster and physical ranged potency. There's help and discussion to be had here, for sure.

I'd be curious to know if anyone has actual data on this; I've always operated on the assumption that ranged physical hit harder than caster, but I have zero evidence to back that up. Maybe they do the same damage?

Don't forget the healer LB3 does NOT hit the entire arena for most fights. Nothing like a healer trying to save the day when they are on the opposite edge of the arena as everyone else....and ressing no one/someone who can't also res.
