Selling Runs and Clears

I’ll see ads in PF about FCs selling raid clears, and tanks and healers selling ques. I see em pretty often so I assume people are actually buying them?

My guess is desperation. I can maybe understand wanting to get faster roulette ques, but buying savage and ex clears? Isnt that the type of content you want to clear with a static or friends or even a learning PF group? Ya know cheer real loud when you guys finally get it?

I dont care how many tries it takes, i’ll be damned if im paying anyone my glamour funds to carry me through content.

EDIT: Guys I wasnt tryin to downplay anyone. Trying to understand really. I guess from MY perspective its pretty ridiculous when I have like 120k on average. It IS their gil I get that much. But personally I wouldn’t have a sense of accomplishment after the clear, AND my pockets would probably be empty.

This was much worse in ARR days as we could not enter unsync'd content, but it's not new, and it's not against ToS, either.

Though I'm with you, OP. I'd never throw my gil at people to carry me for story! Shoot, I'm happily running coils now.

How is selling and/or buying a run equal to cheating? It's providing a service. It's just like all the thousands of crafters and gatherers who "take advantage" of people who are either unwilling or unable to obtain what they need on their own. This game has very few gil-sinks in place, and the result of that is people tend to have large amounts of disposable gil on hand to toss at whatever they want.

I'm not a fan of run sellers either, but you are comparing apples to oranges. They aren't cheaters either...some might be, but who knows. People have been doing this sorta thing since forever...long before XIV came into being. If people want to spend their gil this way then that's their prerogative. Nothing wrong with it if that's their thing.

RMT = Real Money Trading
In game run sellers = In game gil only.

No difference huh?

That's what gil is for - to skip content you don't want to do. Do you want to run expert 4 times to get a ring or do you want to pay a crafter 150k to get one. Do you want to get a pile of gold to furnish your house by running aquapolis 20 times, or do you want to pay someone else 3 million. Do you want to spend an hour gathering 40 fish for that food you need to craft, or will you buy it off a gatherer.

Personally I don't have any gumption to pay for a minor stat upgrade, but it ain't my gil.

I don't find run selling appealing - it is kind of like paying gil to someone else to play the game for you - and I am not a fan of run selling shouts or listing in PF, but I think it is within the terms of service of the game and overall it doesn't affect me much. Some people must find it valuable.

I guess it could result in some people seeming to be more experienced or skilled at certain fights than they actually are, but that could happen regardless of whether they paid for the carry or not. I suppose that gil buying players might also buy clears, but there is lots of expensive stuff on the market board anyway that they could spend their ill gotten gil on anyway.

In one sense run selling is interesting - in that it is a player initiated business that isn't run or necessarily authorized by the game itself, although it is facilitated by party finder. And unlike RMT it doesn't seem to affect the game balance so far and it isn't banned by the terms of service.
