As title says after the patch something has gone wonky. I cannot clear my target with escape, this only opens the game menu. I cannot for the life of me figure out what setting has gone and changed (a friend of mine doesn't have the same problem). I've had to enable clicking on field to clear target because well, had no way of doing that otherwise.
Anyone have any insight as to what happened and how can I fix this?

I checked the patch notes, but if this was mentioned there, I missed it. Prior to 4.1, the "Cancel" and "Close All UI Components" were one key that canceled, closed windows, deselected targets, and opened the Menu.
Now, they are two separate keys, and Cancel will cancel and deselect target, while Close All UI Components will close windows and open the Menu.
So you just need to remap your Esc key to "Cancel", and put some other key in Close All. Close All is compulsory; you cannot leave it blank. If you never open the menu, you can bind this to some absurd key combination like Ctrl+alt+shift+F9.
This is mostly a good change, as for those of us who never use the Menu, having it separate from the Cancel button is great because the Cancel button is now spammable, and does not open the Menu.
HOWEVER
Canceling a cast is, for reasons that escape me, now a function of the Close All button instead of the Cancel button.
I have submitted a bug report.
Thank you for this, has been driving me just crazy all day! I honestly don't know why they felt the need to make it two separate buttons, was working just fine before imo.
edit: but now my escape won't close say MB windows. Ugh so annoying.
Actually I made a new character and on that escape is bound to close all, same as my high level character. But on that one it DOES deselect target. I am still very baffled
Based on the latest Known Issues post on Lodestone, Close All still deselects target when you have the non-separated Target Info. If you use split Target Info, you have to use the Cancel button. It sounds like they just didn't divide the behavior between the two binds properly, as explained in my big report.
Once everything is fixed, it will be a great change, because spamming Cancel will cancel and deselect target, without bringing up the System Menu.
Ah gotcha, that makes sense. I just wish it would work as before, I don't mind esc bringing the menu up at all, as long as it does it after closing everything and deselecting target. Now the cancel button I have never had any use for.
