Everyone I'm speaking to is trying to download the newest patch and the launcher is crashing. It gets to around 600MB downloaded and this error happens.

also getting this, download drops to around 0.15mb/s then maybe 10 minutes later same message
I, too, am getting the same error repeatedly. Download goes fast for a while - slows way down, and then that error occurs - starts over.
Same issue occurring for me as well. Exactly like described above.
Lots of people on reddit reporting same issue. Currently downloading at .20MB/s or slower.
It's understandable the download would be slow with so many people trying to download at the same time, of course. But stopping completely and unable to patch at all is scaring me. I will be exceedingly upset to lose out on a house due to errors from network traffic SE did not prepare adequately for...

Same here (Steam player). And my GF is having a similar problem with PS4.
SE please, solve the problem. Would be very unfair if people could not buy a Shiroane's house because of you.
