Return To Ivalice: Return of Burmecians!?

I am super super super fanboying out here, do you think that we might see Burcmecians again in the near future!? Freya was the penultimate dragoon, period, the best one, there is no arguments against that and it literally needs no explanation... So I would be just so excited if we were able to see the Burmecians and expand the races beyond just simply human reskins again and make a beast tribe that can be more animated, or possibly playable!

Freya's great and FFIX is my favourite title after FFXII so I'd definitely like to see more references to it at some point. As for Burmecians becoming a playable race, though? I just don't see it. The closest we'd get, I think, is if they were some sort of beast tribe and completing their quests unlocked a 'costume' that allows players to look like them. Sort of how it worked with the Vath and Vanu Vanu.

I wouldn't count on it, but moreover I'm confused about where you drew the link with Ivalice here...?

Likely the appearance of the Prima Vista, if I had to hazard a guess. I doubt the references to IX will go beyond that, though.

Yeah, frankly the writers put themselves in something of a hole regarding more bestial player races. While I personally would love to see them, given the human/beastmen divide it makes those races a little harder to justify. If an equally bestial race counts as a human instead of a beastman, why do they? And sadly there apparently isn't much Japanese demand for such characters. Still, there is always reason to hope! If they did add Burmecians I'd guess it would be in a more FFIX themed expansion than Return to Ivalice though. Maybe when we get to meet the IX legion?

Meta-wise, Viera are much more requested and tie in better with Ivalice. That said, Yoshi DID consider adding Viera in HW only to veto them for being too "human-looking" ...then cannibalizing the Viera designs to make the Au Ra more hyru-like... so I wouldn't hold my breath for more bestial races, if they still have that mindset it's unlikely we'll see any races that are more bestial than "animal ears+tail" combo. It was always a bit of a stretch when Yugiri got introduced and had to cover herself, then HW stated how Au Ra were facing discrimination for looking like dragons (to the point of being sot on sight) yet you could make a lvl1 Au Ra character and not be treated differently by the MSQ.

Well, I don't see Burmecians being introduced at all as there is already an anthropomorphic rat/human hybrid race in the game anyway (the qiqirn, who are also from a past FF game, namely FFXI), and given they're specifically beastmen (the ones found in Eorzea are a mostly shady and untrustworthy lot as it is, with their Gyr Abannian cousins are a downright barbaric and debauched race who eat people), it's probably safe to say you will never see them added as a playable race I'm sorry to say.

They could just reference characters like Freya and the blips of Burmecian culture through the friendly Qiqirns when they finally get their beast tribe series since the Qiqirn are just rat people.

Now that Bangaa are confirmed to be in FFXIV, and Yoshi-P's repeatedly stated he knows the fanbase has a decently sized and vocal group of players that want Viera is some way and that their inclusion was not written off, it's looking more and more likely we can start playing rabbit people in 5.0.

EDIT: What if Freya is the Qiqirn primal? Or at least, a goddess of sorts that is based on the character we know and love?
