Novice questions.

Hello everyone. Back in heavensward I got some of my crafting classes up to 50 to repair my gear. However now that I'm beginning to take my crafting more seriously I have some questions.

1. How far should I level all the crafting classes? I've learned that pretty much every class has some cross ability that I'll need to use at some point or another in order to be able to craft any kind of hq star gear. The only thing is how far do I go with them? Do I go past 50 and just level them all to max or do I just stay at 50 and level my 'specialty' crafting classes.

2. What specialties should I look into? I main a sch so weaver, and leather worker are both on my list of crafter souls but I'm wondering what should be my third. I'm debating between alchemist (for my weapon) and jeweler (for my accessories)

You're probably safe to stop at 50 with the exception of culinarian and goldsmith which you need some level 52(?) cross class skills.

Keep in mind though that crafting classes depend on each other to be able to make ingredients, and if you don't have them all leveled to cap then you'll have to rely A lot on the MB for supplies.

Imo, if you're not going to be self sufficient it kind of defeats the purpose of leveling crafting at all.

If your taking your crafting seriously you want at a minimum try and do the daily turn ins for a boost. (HQ if possible also if you have the gill you can buy them they are pretty cheap for lower than 60 now ) Overall for me was best to get all classes to 70 to have a cash flow constantly coming in. It's not that hard and if you have leves available you can learn to us e them to your advantage just avoid the 10 at a time one from heavens ward. I find Goldsmith / Blacksmith / Weaver to be the most promising is your specializing, can change based on demand and can always change at any time. You will understand once you hit 70. Just remember even if it seems semi pointless company turn ins help a lot in the long run.

If you're serious about crafting, there's nothing to prevent you from getting all 70. But if you're just interested in useful cross class skills, just go grab GSM 54 for Maker's Mark and CUL 54 for Muscle Memory, then focus on your class(s) of interest.

Both ALC and GSM are fine choices. This is something that is entirely up to you. Both will have their own advantages. There's no right or wrong. Just follow your heart! Once you have both GSM 54 and CUL 54, you will have all the important cross class skills anyway. Specialist or not, you will be able to craft everything on their master recipes once you hit level 70.

As others have said, you want them all to 70 and the main reason for that, You always need cross class mats. As far as cross class skills, the unique to class skills stop at 50 for the most part. 54 for Culi.

Once I have everything to level 19 I can craft using one rotation right to 50 on all 8 classes. Then when everything is 50 I can craft using the same rotation all the way to 70 again, on all 8 classes.

It's also entirely possible to get to 70 on one class. The only true cross class you need is Steady Hand II at Culinarian 37. I have done it but I don't recommend it. I think I failed my 68 class quest 8 times. Partly because of gear, partly because I didn't have the cross class to make up for lack of CP but in the end It got done. Mostly what made leveling with Just one craft hard was not having any cross class mats. If it wasn't an Alt it would have cost me a fortune to level that character like that.

You're safe sitting at 54 on most crafts for the cross-class skills. That being said, 51-60 is the greatest investment of both time and gil you'll need to level them, and 60 onwards isn't much of an investment, in fact if you level a certain way you can either make gil, or save gil if you end up melding.

Bearing in mind specialist is current useless so I don't find much use in overthinking, though personally if I had to say my answer would be ALC, primarily since in your case I could make the weapon I need, and craft myself consumables, and also sell crafted consumables, which on more prominent raid servers, will sell like hotcakes
