Glamour system and saving gear?

Hello! I'm very new to FFXIV, played when 1.0 at launch for a few weeks and just now came back to the game after getting tired of WoW's current state. Most all the information I need is readily available via a quick google search except a question I have regarding the Glamour system and gear.

Being pretty spoiled by WoW's Transmog tab and seeing that there isn't anything like that in XIV, will I need to hoard all the gear I get from leveling and quests so they aren't unavailable to me in the future and store them in retainers? WoW used to be like that until the Transmog tab was introduced. You'd have to keep every quest item that was exclusive to that quest to be able to Transmog it or you would never be able to use it's appearance again.

Even right now I have 30+ pieces of gear sitting in my armory tab just in case they are unobtainable in the future xD Thanks a ton in advance for the information!

Pretty much. There's not a whole lot of gear that could be "unobtainable," though. Most of the truly unique gear granted by quests can be repurchased from the Calamity Salvager in every city. If they don't have it, usually you can reacquire by some other means.

Also worth remembering the Armoire available at the Inn. It's a useful place to store some of that gear as well. It's a bit of specialized storage, can't pop just anything in there. But most of the seasonal gear, achievement gear, and other unique offerings can be put away there without clogging up your own inventory. (In fact, I think most of the stuff the Calamity Salvager will sell is also stuff you can store in the Armoire, but I'm not 100% on that)

Thanks a ton for the info, this helps out a lot ;) Since it's such a small amount of gear that ends up being unobtainable, i'll probably try to find a thread somewhere that lists what gear should be saved.

There isn't a list as far as I know, however, websites like the Lodestone's Eorzea Database or Gamerescape list all the gear in the game and how it can be obtained, so you can search pieces that your are curious about.
