Phantom Train

Is there any info on this apart from a mention and the depot? Why is it called 'phantom'... of course when I hear the name I instantly think of FFVI. But I doubt the Garleans have a ghost train working for them... so...? ._.

Nope, that's all the information I'm aware of.

Someone with the lore book might be able to shed more light on it, but other than that... yeah, all we know is that it exists.

It's in, uhh... Castrum Meridianum? I think? There's a Phantom Train Depot. No other information on the subject is available to my knowledge.

I believe it is called the Phantom train because its passage is almost never noticed or some such. There isn't anything supernatural about it. The Lorebook just mentions it as a monstrous train that delivers ordinance to Northern Thanalan.

Yoshi P said if they do something like the Doom Train it will probably be Magitech related in Garlemald.

Papalymo describes it as a "monstrous locomotive which runs back and forth between the two castra is capacious enough to transport a small army, by all accounts." during the Operation Archon quest, with the two castra being Castrum Centri and Castrum Meridianum.

Aside from that mention, as well as the depot, I don't think there's anything else known about it. It's probably just a scary looking train that moves supplies between the previously mentioned two castra.

I took the name to be more metaphorical of it's nature as a military supply line - you know, the military term 'ghost' referring to something that is clandestine/secretive. It's not a real ghost train, just a Garlean black-ops railway that moves supplies and equipment between the two Castri secretively (hence why during Operation Archon the line was blockaded by the Order of the Twin Adder - if they didn't Castum Centri would have easily been able to reinforce Castrum Meridanium right when we were infiltrating the place and the Alliance would have lost the battle).

So yeah, it's just a reference to it's secretive military nature and is not FFVI's actual ghost train I'm sorry to say.

Ah okay, yeah that does make sense. Kinda sad there is no real ghost train though... >.>

Hopefully Doomtrain will make an appearance at least; my favourite summon out of all the games.

Well it does sort of exist, though its a massive stretch. In the Japanese version of VIII the doomtrain summon is named Glasyla Labolas, the same name as second boss in the crystal tower. Personally I like to think he moonlit as a pro wrestler under the name "DOOMTRAIN".
