On overpopulated and standard worlds, I'm sure most would agree that it is very difficult for new free companies to buy a house in order to get the most out of what a free company has to offer.
What if there were an added feature sometime down the road that gave a free company the option to buy something like an instanced fortress instead?
It could offer the same features a house has, and even more things specifically geared toward a free company.
One example: you could have defensive upgrades for the fortress and you hire NPCs to guard it from sieges that enemy NPCs initiate occasionally, maybe a few times a day. I'm thinking of something similar to a fate, but you get a small notification when the fortress is under attack, then players in the free company can choose whether to help defend the fortress and gain exclusive items and company seals, etc.
If the fortress isn't properly defended by free company NPCs and/or free company members, interior fortress access is disabled until repaired. It would most likely not be very expensive, similar to how airship repairs are done. I'd also imagine it should be fairly easy for FC NPCs to defend it alone if SE were to implement something like this. Wouldn't want this event to take away from the other aspects of the game by needing too much attention.
If implemented correctly, the events should be almost non invasive to the other experiences the game has to offer. The fortress repairs would have similar frequency to airship repairs, and the events shouldn't be frequent enough to be able to farm them all day.

As for the idea, one of the reasons why I quit WoW was because of garrisons, so I definitely wouldn't want to see them in this game either. -

I'm all for adding additional functionality to housing, but first they need to make it 1 per FC or person, right now I see in the goblet on my server an FC that owns 6 houses! wtf... fix the system now then add things.

What I think would be a Simler option would be the option to buy am instanced area for the price of a regular house with a size and theme (housing area) choice, and since there\\\\'s a moving feature coming, you could always move from your instance to an actual house. This gives at least some housing to fcs who are struggling with that without being unfair towards anyone.
