FFXIV contests are unfairly judged

Just looking at the and action contest you have to notice multiple things.

1 if you wanna look stupid misread the rules and assume your right for the world to see

2 take peoples advice and try harder next time

3 it takes a lot of balls to admit defeat due to misunderstanding

4 I have reading problems but I will not blame my misunderstanding on that

5 ty for the more positive feedback.

6. I wasn't being salty I literally misunderstood the rules from the start I've already won a contest and have a mandragora chocker just literally thought I was being screwed over this time around







that's what I learned from the and action contest.

Looking at the rules for the "And... Action!" contest, it doesn't say anything about having to use a NEW skill or ability. It just says: "The screenshot must depict a character making use of actions and abilities."

This is really the only point that has anything to do with rules and, as such, the only one that applies to whether the contest was "fair" or not. And as Nexerius pointed out, I think you misread them. There was nothing about it needing to be a shot of a new skill.

The rest of your points are just about personal taste. It's a shame you didn't win, but ultimately any "art" contests like these come down to whatever the judges like best. With so many entries in this sort of contest, there is very slim chances of winning. Your entry would have to be high quality, original, and beautiful. In my opinion, all of the winners were. You might disagree but, again, it just comes down to individual taste in the end.

I debated responding to this. Let's start by addressing your points. I was in the top 50.

1- You did not need to use a new ability.

2- I did not crop my image. Many others did not crop their image. People made use of clever angles, lighting, and effects, as encouraged to do.

3- This wraps back to other points. I did not follow your apparent guidelines for winning.

4- I followed the rules to a T, as did many.

My point here is that if you are upset by the results you should take your loss as an opportunity to expand on your skills. Practice! Spend lots of time experimenting with Gpose! Don't allow one loss to cloud your desire to participate in future contests. The only way you can improve is if you understand that contests require some measure of patience, learned skills, and, yes, luck. There is nothing wrong with accepting a loss as simply another chance to try again, and to show improvement through practice.

This was the best contest to date, and I say that as someone who didn't even enter. For once, I have absolutely no issue with any of the winners. Everyone who won this contest took a great screenshot (and followed all the rules) and deserved to win.

As far as this BS about using a new ability. Re-read the rules.

The only mention of anything new is new functions in /gpose. The contest never said anything about using new job abilities.

The only thing that cheesed me was that there were so many generic limit break screen shots ,and one got into the top 3. This aside I looked at every single submission and they were all legal by the terms of the contest. I would also note that the top 3 winners were far and away better at composition than EVERY other submission. I don't like that they said you are encouraged to use new skills , and then picked loads without them but you really can't argue that they didn't pick the best unless your are blind or just petty.

The point of the contest was to get people trying out dynamic camera angles and lighting using the new /grouppose command. That was the only thing encouraged, nowhere did it say that you had to use new abilities.

Furthermore, according to the contest guidelines cropping images using image editing software was allowed - alteration, enhancement, or addition of features via image editing software was explicitly disallowed however. That being said only 7 of the 50 winners appeared to have been cropped from original screenshots, as the other 43 winners all bore the SE copyright tag that all in-game screenshots get automatically added in.

When rules are read when in tl;dr mode and walking away without even double check what you did understood, this is what happens then.
