tomestone of poetics?
Hi guys! I'm a newbie and I came across these tomestones of poetics. Could anyone give me advise on how best to spend them?
I'm currently a level 47 DRG and I've read that I can spend them on level 50 gears. Are they worth it? Can I spend them on anything else? I haven't reached the place where I can spend them on (Mor Dhona or something I think?) so I haven't been able to check. I got them as rewards from the beast tribe dailies (sylphs etc.)
Thanks!

You trade them for items in some cities. Can be traded for gear, relic items, items, crafting ect. Example Mor Dhona

If youre lvl 47 you can spend them on gear - you can buy lvl 50 white gear from vendors and MB, but this saves you gil :) if you have gear, you can buy more gear and trade it at your GC for seals, if you need them.

So if I don't have gear (I don't, cept for the drachen DRG set sans the chest piece), use em to buy the level 50 gears. If I do have gear, buy and donate to GC?

You'll get an item level 90 set from your level 50 job quest plus gear every 2 levels on the way to 60, so you won't need Ironworks gear. Although buying the weapon and upgrading it to i130 will be a big boost, and some of the gear looks pretty great if you want to use it for glamour.

You can use them to buy item level 120 gear in Revenant's Toll (Mor Dhona) for level 50 and then also use them to buy items to upgrade that gear to i130. This is really good gear that lasts you until level 55. :)

Thanks for the answers guys!

Your job quests will give you item level 90 armour, and that could suffice for a while, but the ilvl 120 (or upgraded to 130) Ironworks set that you can get from Poetics is a major boost above that. Plus it includes a weapon, which the job quests don't. This gear isn't the only thing you can get with Poetics, but it's probably the best thing you can get when you first reach level 50.
The costs are:
Weapon: 500 Poetics (or 380 sword + 120 shield in the case of PLD)
Body and Legs: 410 Poetics each
Helm, Gloves, and Shoes: 245 Poetics each
Belt and accessories: 180 Poetics each
So, completely outfitting yourself in iLvl 120 costs a total of 3135 Tomestones of Poetics. I'd prioritize the weapon first, then body, then legs, and so on down to the cheaper items, as generally the difference in power is greater than the difference in cost.
... and maybe prioritize upgrading the weapon ahead of buying some of the minor pieces.
To upgrade Ironworks (iLvl 120) to Augmented Ironworks (iLvl 130), you need either Carbontwine (for weapon or armour) or Carboncoat (for accessories) for each piece. These can be either purchased for another 100 Poetics each, or if you get into the Hunt you can get them in trade for Unstained Mark Logs that sometimes drop from A/S rank marks, or can be purchased with Allied Seals. Since the gear has the "UNIQUE" tag, you cannot upgrade both Ironworks rings, so a full set would use a total of 7 carbontwine and 4 carboncoat.
The weapon costs 500 Poetics, but in a rather roundabout way. You buy 10 Rowena's Tokens of Poetics for 40 each, and an Encrypted Tomestone for 100 Poetics, then trade those for a weapon. (Back when it was endgame, the Encrypted Tomestone was exclusively a raid drop, and I suppose it's still available there, but they gave us an easier way of purchasing it once level 50 was just a mid-game point to pass through. Rowena's tokens were originally a lot more expensive too, and were a way of splitting up the cost of something that took more tomes than you could hold at a time.)

poetics are used alot in the relic reborn and anima weapon quests. you don't have to do these because you can get better weapons now pretty easily, but if you want the achieves and the weapon glams you could save the tomestones for that. I'd recommend doing at least the first part of the relic reborn quests, though. It unlocks 2 trials and it's pretty fast to get to the purple stage nowadays.

And no one else is saying it, so ill point this out. In addition to the level 50 gear(ironworks mentioned above), items for several quests, some crafting mats, and a handful of other "assorted" things, theres one more key usage for poetics these days. You can also use them to buy some level 60 gear(and upgrades). So when you're starting to get close to 60 putting some tomes down on a few pieces of Shire gear(ilvl 260) just like you did for the Ironworks stuff 10 levels earlier is a good idea.
