POTD: 180 Boss, Meteor + Autoattack at the same time?

Hi! I've been working on my RDM soloing... but my run got ended by an Ecliptic Meteor "1-shot", where the boss for some reason autoattacks you right as the meteor lands, doing 100% of your HP (meteor is 80% HP, and an autoattack is around 3K damage). This is not the first time this has happened to me, but from my experience, the boss doesn't autoattack normally during Ecliptic Meteor phase.

And for reference, here is another clip of me soloing the meteor spam phase on Scholar. I'm definitely in melee range - I'm even book-slapping the boss - but it's not autoing me back.

Does anybody know why sometimes it autoattacks you during the meteor spam phase? Is it because I was standing right in front of it?

Any tips appreciated~ or else next time I'll just stay at range and be safe!

I can't answer because I don't know, but have u tried to not be in aa range during that phase?

This seems to be a normal thing in this game. During my raiding experience I've seen alot castet tankbusters where an auto attack was incoming between the cast and the hit. Most common in A1S, which made the original disable (AST) completely useless. In some rare cases the boss (mostly Bahamut-Prime) did an auto attack during the cast for the tank buster.

I've been in melee-range before, book slapping as a Scholar.

But, I've been told it only autoattacks you if it's facing you, and when I was on my Scholar, I was on its side. And because all it does is spam meteor, it won't actually take time to turn to hit you.

Regardless, next time, I'm just not going to stand in melee range unless I absolute have to because I'm running out of time or something. It's just not worth risking the 10+ hours of grinding for...

It can autoattack you inbetween meteor spams, as I did fall for it just this week as well (remembered to stay far from melee the whole run, then forgot it once it started meteors >.<).
The thing is, its autoatk swing timer might be jagged a bit so it might not hit you between every meteor. But when it does line up, its GG. And as you have no access to Flare/Holy, there's no point even risking it.

I think even we auto attack while doing other big combo's, why shouldn't the boss? But to be honest you are a red mage which imo is a face roll class when it comes to POTD.

not really faceroll still. 170+ is quite rough even for reds. (grumblegrumble, harambe doin auto+cleave+auto to kill me before even one heal grumblegrumble)
