Is it worth bringing a summoner to raids?

I love the concept of summoner but in my opinion I feel like it is lack luster for all the effort you put in. Make a mistake or die it's too punishing.

I'm no genius when it comes to class reworks, but how about making summoner a support with high burst through temporary summons. I see a lot of people hating on the pet AI, so why not have the pet be an ability than a pet. Or maybe like an evoker where you take on the aspect of one of your summons for a period of time. I'm going to write something up like others in the forums. But what do you think of my basic idea? I'll write a list of abilities that would 've changed a little later

For Progression Raiding, Summoner is an absolute nightmare. Progression were deaths, and wipes are expected makes Summoner a hindrance. You're better off going Black Mage or Red Mage if you expect to be learning fights.

My group has a SMN and myself as a MCH, and we're progressing just fine. Our SMN was 2nd highest in damage in our last O2S parse.

It's worth it to bring a SMN.

It depends more player than the class. If you can perform well, any class can easily clear any content. Summoner probably not offer optimal raid composition, but dps is enough clear anything that game currently have.

as long as you can dps dps dps then any dps class is fine.

Sadly though that says more about your SMN friend than it does the class. It IS possible to raid with one, same for MCH even though most people will say its not a good idea. For those two jobs though, its more player skill than what the job actually brings to the table. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, it spurs learning if you know that a death is going to gimp your dps straight to the bottom.

Worth? Sure, they're all worth it, even the unloved MCH.
Optimal? Nah
If your SMN was a RDM, he'd ress easier, deal more DPS and more utility to the party, but hey its doable; My group also has a SMN and he plays it cause he has fun with it, we're progressing. It always depends more on the player than the class, but some classes are easier (and stronger) than others.

Every job is viable for raiding. The only issue with SMN right now is their death penalty is probably the highest among all jobs.

Depends on the type of player you are/group you're in. On the same field, RDM's will usually outdamage SMN and boost team damage with embolden more, but if you enjoy playing SMN and have the handle on fights, and are with a group that doesn't mind you playing the class you like, go for it!

i'm going in raids as both red and summoner. While learning im going red mage cause unlimited rez but once we'e nailed it i'll go depending on my mood cause you can never have enough bahaumet
