Is it still crit then hit?
this is a very grey subject since waters are still been tested.
If damage is all you care
LEFT- DIRECT HIT
RIGHT- STR
If you want pretty much dmg, mitigation and extra healing potency
LEFT- TENASITY
RIGHT- STR
and I'd argue if you raid go tenasity it's very awesome. IMO
Was a lot of testing done on the subject, and it seems for now you're better off with direct hit and just get tenacity through gear only. In later patches however tenacity will likely be the go to stat. But the amount you can gain in current gear isn't worth it to also meld it outside what you already get on gear.
there was a threat done here stating that direct hit build over tenasity build was only 1.5% extra dps not worth the trade off IMO 1.5% is very insignificant if the pt doesn't meet dps check doubt 1.5% will make a difference but mitigating damage along side saving and smoothing your healers mp and experience seems like a really good trade and I've read about getting hit for over 50k on v4 so I aint taking changes with that.
From what I was seeing, DH was the way to go if we couldn't get 2k tenacity, which we couldn't before 4.05. At 2k tenacity, it out weighed the gains from DH, plus added mitigation and extra heals received. With all 230 gear I have a set I'm working toward that has 2033 tenacity without food, will be higher as I upgrade to 340 stuff. Add my food to that and I'm getting around a 10% damage boost, plus mitigation (5%+?) and heals received.
Direct hit is a proc you're hoping for with the chance being pretty low until you get high DH added I believe, tenacity adds to every hit you deal, every hit received, and every heal/HoT a healer puts on you. To me there's no question anymore, I'll stack tenacity all day. Makes the healers life easier and lets them add more DPS to the party as well. Helps 100% of my hits instead of 25% of my hits, I'm good with that.
LEFT- TENACITY (If capped, I'll meld Direct Hit)
RIGHT- STR
It doesn't matter how much tenacity or dh you have. The stat vslued don't magically change when you hit 1500 or some other number. Tenacity doesn't suck when melded but rock through gear. So much nonsense spead like rumors through these and other forums. If you think dh is better, focus all your gear and melds on that. If you think ten is better focus all your gear and melds on that instead. Tenacity seems clearly better to me but some would rather do 2% more dps and take 10% more damage.
My guess is that he's saying that people who want to meld DH, are likely going to pick the end game gear that favors DH over Tenacity. Thus adding to their DPS at the cost of taking more damage. 2k tenacity is easy to hit that that's essentially an additional Protect every hit you take with it's 10% mitigation. If you're going for the tenacity build, you're obviously going to favor the gear that has that stat on it.
Too many people right now think that more dps is the only way to go, not looking at the fact that mitigation is good to have because it saves healers heals, and allows them to dps more. Too many people don't do their own research and test numbers, they just read FFLogs and think if people aren't in the top then they are garbage. More to being a tank than dps, a lot more.
Well why not do both? Get gear with tenacity on it, meld it with direct hit = profit.
I haven't seen anyone saying you should avoid tenacity at all cost, it will still appear on gear. The question is whatever to also meld it onto gear (assuming its not already at the cap) The maximum amount of Tenacity OR Direct Hit for that matter you can get from melds is 520 on non crafted gear & assuming you'll be melding strength on all accessories. 520 additional tenacity is 2.6%
I'm not exactly sure about the formula for Direct Hit but I'm pretty sure 1500 Direct Hit is in the ballpark of 20% I have 1600 Direct Hit and on average 20-30% of my attacks on an encounter are direct hits.
