Why is Hagakure a DPS increase?

Just wondering because I see a lot of guides using it at various points....but I dont understand why.

To me it seemed like its only use would be to reset Iai so you could reapply your dot, or during a boss transition where you wanted to rest your rotation with some extra kenki.

The I see it is:

Kaiten + Midare = 720 + 360 = 1080 potency

Hagakure + lets say 3 Shiten = 300 x 3 = 900 potency

Or

Haga + Guren = 800 potency

So why would I ditch 3 sen and turn it into 900 potency when I could use 3 sen and turn them into 1080 potency?

I might be wrong but isn't it because it's an ocgd weave? Midare is a stationary cast where as Shinten would be weaved so you'll have other potency going out during what would be the midare cast?

Hagakure is used in the opener both to use Kaiten/Higanbana and to ensure you have enough kenki for Guren toward the end, also useful as you said during transitions. Another use would be for if you were too low on kenki when Guren is coming off cd or need to reset kenki count for a specific iaijutsu

Without going to much into the math and rest of toolkit. This is about right.

Sticking with the ops example 3x shinten is 900posncy with a 0 second time cost as it's weaved.

midare is a 3 second cast at 1080 potency. So the extra 180 potency you would gain comes at the cost of about 3 seconds.

Even if you simply add in a hakaza gcd in that 3 seconds. You then get 900 +150 =1050 potency.

Then the cost of kaiten is also pretty much a 4th shinten so now that's 1350 potency instead of 1080.

My maths is not entirely accurate but don't think I'm terribly far off.

It's a dps increase cause it's a ogcd so like u said 1080 for a midare but that's a total of 80 Kenki plus a cast time means no other action or auto atk unless u timed midare right after an auto which is rng, but if u use the 80 kenki for 3 shitens thats 900 plus auto 100 average plus your first combo 150 , so that's about 1150 which is more also means your 1 Gcd action ahead in ur combo again as well. Plus u have 5 kenki left over.

so if you are looking for max DPS, Hagakure is better than Midare if:
-You have enough time to spend kenki (Like 6.5 seconds).
-Trick Attack is not up.

Better PPS.
