I'm having a slight problem. It seems that character and NPC models don't like to show up for me, leading me to having to relog just to buy something from a shop or finish a quest. I've tried turning all the graphics options onto lowest, but it still seems to be happening. Any answers?
I'm able to run the graphics all on at least standard, and I don't have any major lag.
I'm also having this exact same issue. It's gotten to the point where sometimes when I login, some characters are not displaying. I have to relog in in order to get characters to display and they only display in the immediate vicinity around me and not all characters are shown to me even then.
For example, when I'm crafting I can see other PCs crafting effects but I can't see or target the PCs themselves. When I go to a shop or counter, I can't see the NPC even though the green dot exists on the radar, indicating that the NPC should be there. At times I can't see or target any players even though the radar tells me that I am surrounded by them. And this is in normally crowded areas. When I'm riding my chocobo, it will disappear and won't reappear even when I dismiss it and call it back, even though I can still ride it. Monsters that appear on my radar will not display in the open world and I cannot target them. This is at locations near the city where I know there are a lot of mobs that should be there. Aetherytes don't show up and can't be targeted. You can still see the sparkle effect that indicates where they're supposed to be however.
So right now, I can't see or target NPCs, PCs, or monsters unless I relog, and then it only shows me the models in the immediate vicinity. As soon as I venture out further, I can't see or target anything else.
My computer is an i7-920, Radeon 4870 graphics card, Windows 7 Ultimate.
I run all settings on standard and have turned off every extra feature I can think of.
Does this always happen in the same few places or does it occur for every NPC in the game?
It occurs for every NPC, PC, and monster in the game. Any model that you can target becomes untargetable. Although I have played around and something in the audio settings seems to have limited this. I had changed Audio Distance setting to "Character" before. It seems that the problem began to happen at that point. After changing Audio Distance back to "Screen" the problem seemed to alleviate itself, although it still happens occasionally. I kinda want to test it again and see if this setting really is the issue, so I can possibly submit it as a bug.
So the issue isn't fixed at all like I thought. The problem is just as bad now as it was before. What I may end up trying is just reinstalling the game.
Current specs on the gfx card and hdd page file size?
If you stand at the npc for a long long time does it eventually load?
things to try:
update gfx driver to latest version
run chkdsk
kill the page file, restart, recreate the page file (system specified)
When FFXIV started the adventure guild NPC in Limsa, and Gridania took long time to pop and at one point I think they fixed where the NPC loads first, after this last patch seems like it went back again or something... Limsa and Gridania Adventure guild NPC takes really long time to load for me. Didn't check Uldah NPC
