Is there a way to actually use Plenary Indulgence?

So.... I'm trying to wrap my head around Plenary Indulgence.

I've yet to find a realistic situation in which I can actually use it, and really get some actual use out of it.

I know basically how it works -- anytime you heal with Cure3, Medica, or Medica II, people randomly get Confession.

Use Plenary Indulgence to use Confession stacks to heal. Sounds cool.

Except... the Confession stacks wear off far too fast (seriously, 8 seconds I think it was? yeesh). And two, it is much too weak. Two stacks is only ~6k healing. That's about what Assize does IIRC. And Assize gives me MP back and doesn't require the ultra-expensive AoE Heal Spam setup, and always works, and not just sometimes.

Also, Medica and Cure3 doesn't build Lillies last I checked.

So....


PI is weaker than Assize, harder to set up than Assize and doesn't return MP but rather eats MP in the form of expensive AoE heals.

What exactly is this spell intended for? I can't really see any situations where I could possibly be doing enough Medica to get 3, 4+ stacks of Confession to actually make the spell useful and if I did, I'd be blowing through my MP meter like crazy, just to set up one mega-heal instead of, you know, tossing some Cure(2)s to make Assize come back sooner and saving a lot of MP in the process.

Plenary Indulgence is like an extra Medica after a Cure III, Medica, or Medica II. It is meant for MP and GCD efficiency for AoE heals.

For a start, Confession duration is reset with each proc. This means you can be more lax with PI as long as you weave in another AoE heal in between the 10 second duration.

I do feel the heal is weak especially on 1-stack, but then, in times such as O1S's healer check; where everyone's HP goes to 1, just an extra oomph of HP can really help you top them off to full HP with one less GCD.

Here's an example situation of a healer check in O1S in both healer's perspectives:

• Alte Roite prepares Charboidys
• WHM pre-casts Medica II
• AST pre-casts Aspected Helios
• Alte Roite casts Charboidys and turns everyone's HP to 1
• WHM casts Medica II and Asylum
• AST casts Aspected Helios
• Alte Roite prepares Twin Bolts (Tankbuster incoming to both tanks!)
• AST casts Essential Dignity, then Benefic II and Aspected Benefic to the OT.
• WHM casts Cure III to stack and Plenary Indulgence (2-stacks)
• AST casts Aspected Benefic to the MT.
• WHM casts Cure II and Divine Benison to the MT.
• Alte Roite casts Twin Bolts.

Results? The tanks can just brush that off almost unscatched, and everyone else are at high HP by now. AST got enough GCDs to shield both tanks thanks to your excellent healing. Afterwards, the boss goes to The Classical Elements, opening a window for you to DPS, increasing your overall DPS output and chances of clearing the duty!

All in all, PI is MP efficient, saves a GCD, and allows you to get away without using your other, more precious OGCDs, while also opening up opportunities for you to DPS because everyone's in good health!

There are lots of ways, you should figure out the best ones on your own.

Plenary Indulgence is best used in Extreme or Savage content, where the healing checks become tougher, especially in O4S. Anything below that usually can't take advantage of the extra healing PI provides as most dungeons just don't do enough AoE damage to require needing PI.

First things first: The tooltip lies. You always get a confession.

Second things second: It seems like it's only really good in savage raids, where you are casting multiple aoe healing spells in succession. If the confessions lasted longer it'd be very interesting heal in almost any content. I hope that's what happens.

The only reason why i think OP is asking such question because he probably has not done the top end content yet where the healing throughput check is pretty tight. PI is simply amazing in such scenario

I use it during larger dungeon pulls after throwing up medicaII > Regen > pop PI and go into my Holy spamming. Its not a GREAT use, but it is a simple use that gives me more time to DPS during pulls. There are bosses in dungeons where I can throw up a medica II, pop PI and let regen do its work while DPS'ing, ect. You dont have to use it at 3 stacks, you can just use it as a simple free extra cure for wiggle room as well. It has a lot of uses, such as Lyrai said which is my favorite use of it. The timer on it resets so staggering aoe heals is also a great way to extend its time however it must heal some hp or it doesn't grant a stack.

It is indeed. Maeka, you can also try this out in O1, since the boss also has Charboidys in normal mode. Then, you'll find yourself a good way to make use of PI in the high-end raids where the heals get even more intense than ever before.

Thank you. I'm glad I'm not alone in this! I haven't brought my WHM to O1S myself, but I cleared it as a PLD. I was able theorycraft this after just bringing my WHM to 70 and saw how it works by just a dungeon. (Big thanks to Thin Air for letting me spam Cure III XD) ;)

I would be lying if I said it was exactly as you state, but with proper timing you can get off a medica II during the first AOE damage, get a medica off for roar, party shouldn't be topped off or will be close too, char comes and you get that next medica off while med II is still ticking and then pop a PI at 3 stacks. Party is almost topped and Med II finishes it off. It's such a good feel. Close enough though since its the same mechanic :)

as long as actual healing is done that is. like with lilies, it will not trigger if the target is at 100% health at the moment of healing.

PI in extreme/savage content seems to have its uses, but on normal content it simply is +150 potency on an aoe heal from time to time. nice to have at best.
