Vendor for missed FATE items?

I wish we still had a suggestion area or something like in beta; not sure if this will actually even reach anyone, but I figured I'd pop it down just for everyone to view anyway.

I've been camping Ixion with friends recently, and it's no secret that these 72 hour window FATEs generate a ton of DCing players from the load it creates on the server with so many people flooding into the instance.

The issue is that we found out unfortunately when you DC at the end, right as Ixion is dying (which is extremely common towards the tail end of his HP pool), upon login you'll completely miss credit and receive no horns at all, even when your entire party got them.

I was wondering if perhaps SE would be able to incorporate something similar to the Calamity Vendor, where upon missing drop items you can just visit an NPC that will gift them to you?

While that's a good suggestion in theory, I can point out right away, why this won't happen. Thanks to these people, that like others to do their job, we would find a lot of players standing just in the fate not participating at all, or just hitting 1 skill every 15 minutes and these would be rewarded with the npc. Now if we restrict the vendor to something, you have to have dealt x amount of dmg etc, it would be better, but then you dc'ing would defeat that purpose, if that makes any sense lol

After all I would welcome it, but can see why it won't implemented.

This is the one side of the Ixion grievances I actually agree with. It's legitimately punishing you through no actual fault of your own. That said, I don't think it is currently possible for the server to recognize who got D/Ced, when, under what circumstances, and what rewards were due.

I don't know if it is possible, or how difficult implementing it would be, or what kind of strain it would cause.... However, I would think "saving" your existence until your next login would help alleviate this issue. Something like upon loading back in, should a FATE complete, a hunt mob die, a dungeon complete, you would still get your credit, contribution, what have you "saved" in a limbo state for X amount of time- say 10 minutes?

heck, even saving that stuff for the window you have to wait anyway for the auto-logout to work it's magic. I really do not know.

It's quite difficult for the server to be selective about who gets what during/after a D/C... especially when you consider Ixion. The servers have shown they have a very hard time with this.

No way to tell what can or can't because the infrastructure is for SE's eyes alone, just suggesting.

Back end is still an absolute mess from a large portion of it belonging to 1.0 to this day, but figured it's worth mentioning. I know in GW2 when you miss rewards for "dyanmic events" they send it to your mail, so it is possible — just not certain with whatever they have going on with the back end.

Yes!! Perhaps there's some kind of logic branching they could use: EG. If character is online, place reward in inventory; else, send to mailbox.

Just a fail safe statement that returns and tells the system to send your reward to mailbox if character is unresponsive. As far as players receiving unjust rewards, they already have a reward tier in place to determine what you get based on participation so theoretically it should carry through.

There's no need to use mailbox. It's not like you have your character on your computer. Why is it done through mails in other games?! Simple. So that you know whether you got the reward or not. For server it does not matter at all whether you are online or not. It could reward you with the item straight into inventory just the same, without even knowing there's something wrong.

The problem probably is that the game checks for who is eligible to get the reward only when the mob is killed, and logged-out players, even if they should be eligible cause they took, lets say, 90% of the HP pool of the boss, are not "on". Though, to be honest, I WAS disconnected once right before a boss from a fate died and I still did get the reward. So I'm not sure that people not getting the horns after getting disconnected aren't just losing out on it due to not being eligible in the first place.

I won't assume to know the clustered mess they're working with on the back end; Whether it's a problem with the instances hitting a wall in rewarding offline players that participated or the way the server processes things. If people have received rewards from fates while being offline before (never experienced this myself personally) then yes it would be an entirely different issue.

I'm going to assume that ppl who had this happen weren't experiencing any DC symptoms at the time up until the last chunk of HP though, because it's fairly obvious when you're hitting a huge lag spike in these things. Only people who are gonna know for sure what's going on are the devs. If it's not an issue with people having to be online to receive the rewards, and the only time lag/dc symptoms are experienced are right at the end after putting in some solid work then...too many requests to the server too quickly? Do we know any complaints of people not receiving credit at all?

As long your character is still on with the dc icon (even if you are not, on your screen) you'll receive the reward.
If you have dc and the chara isn't on the map anymore and take to much time to come back (aka after the boss is dead) then nothing.
I was on Ixion once, doing the fate with full group, have dc at 3% but the queue didn't let me come back before the end. No reward. Haven't complain. It's sad but nothing you can do about it except more stable server when there is a lot of people.
The game check if you are eligible at the end, not before or after. (if you are in a group, it's a group effort, everyone will receive the same reward so if someone doesn't dps it's not good for him even if the group do but not enough. If the group did good, you dc, you come back at the end, you hit once, you'll have full reward)

Making an issue known isn't complaining, and I'm glad this thread moved you to share your experience.

This game at the core is branded and designed to be as compromising as possible, from the way we receive loot (every raid completion now gives everyone a little something for extra compensation as opposed to the old days where a raid leader would disperse gear among the most active), every "Notorious Monster" out in the world is able to be claimed by people that 0 affiliation with one another just by participating, and they make sure both casual and newer players coming into the game are still able to get dungeon queue pops with relative ease by incorporating high tomestone rewards for the end game players by helping.

The point being: this could stand to be fixed.

Just because something is done a certain way right now doesn't mean that it's the best solution. These are people like you and I showing up to work every day trying to find solutions to problems. Suggestions help.
