Frustrated about not being able to choose a class. Thanks ADHD. ::wall of text::

So I literally can't play the game more than 20 mins at a time because I can't figure out what to do in the game.

I just got my Paladin up to 60, and he's ready to head into SB, but then I go to thinking. But why waste all those instant queue dungeons when you're going to be getting all that juicy msq quest exp? Maybe level another class up first?

Well monk looks pretty fun, but what if I don't like the positionals at max level?
BLM is pretty fun, but RDM does everything better, and I might not like the turretness of BLM.

Well what about SAM? It's really fun, but man - everyone is playing SAM and RDM right now, I'll never be able to find a group!

DRK has great aesthetics and is really fun to play, but why play him over a PLD when PLD does everything better?

Oh man...all this thinking...time is ticking by! I'm getting further and further behind in gear because I'm not at the max level and getting my weekly raids in.

Maybe I should just stick to my Paladin? Tanking is okay, and I get instant queues. Let's check the party finder though to see if anyone is even looking for tanks. ::all groups and statics already have a tank:: Oh man. Maybe I shouldn't play a tank?

Then I'll play dps? But then I'll have 30+ minute queue times. Oh no. AGH!
Agh. I just want to play the game. But I can't decide on anything, it's so frustrating! Sorry to vent, but man - this game is amazing. Maybe too amazing that's it's hard to decide on what I want to level up first.

Maybe this game would be more fun if I was in a FC, but as it stands, I transferred from Tonberry to Goblin (and empty server) because my brother wanted to start playing and Tonberry still is not accepting new characters. So I transfered to this arguably dead server, and 2 days later he gets called off to work and won't be able to play any longer. So here I am alone.

I don't know what to do.

Firstly, try to find an FC or static.

If you are genuinely worried about picking a job by it's raid viability, and everything looks interesting, you need to get into a group and fill what gap they need. Paladin will take you far, but any job you settle on will get you through everything if you work at it. Every static will use different party comps, so one group may need a bursty DPS while another is short a tank. It varies.

Otherwise, if choosing a main is impossible, then work a little on a job from each category. If you think RDM looks amazing, then that's your caster. SAM look great? That's your melee. What about a healer or ranger?

At least narrowing it down that way will help you shrink the pool of choices for later.

One thing that dawned on me while I was leveling through SB was that, no matter what I played it was all progress. There is no mechanism to take away your xp so whether you ride around getting map xp on pld or rdm, it won't be "wasted" (unless you reach the cap lol).

You have plenty of time to decide what job you really enjoy playing. Just take it slow and reading the job forums can help to get an idea of how some jobs are performing endgame. As a Black Mage main I have found myself now a Red Mage just because I find it fun. In the game it's not hard to get in a group as a Sam or Red Mage since they are all shiny and tuned well. However there are many more dps players then tanks or healers so keep that in mind.

Side note: As someone who has ADHD myself I can say I understand how the many choices of this game can lead to episodes of high anxiety with the feeling of needing to catch up. Everyone who suffers from it is different. In regards to this game I cannot main healer or really a tank as I become too distracted or just blank out during said activities resulting in deaths or lost aggro. My boyfriend helps me by doing callouts to keep my attention in line but I still have trouble playing by myself. I find dps jobs more engaging and able to hold my interest. Many dps jobs like Red Mage feel faster paced and super flashy which for sure helps. But like I said everyone who has ADHD is different.

WAR and DRK can be every bit as good as paladin, especially after the recent buffs. Hell I just switched from PLD to WAR main.

I haven't found ADHD really interferes with my ability to play this game or be productive in it. I just kind of do whatever I feel like at a given moment until I no longer feel like doing it.

First of all, forget about the que times. They got much better now for DPS. I used to main SMN and I'd que up with my bf who was MNK. We waited for a bit but damn it was so much fun when you got to BLOW EVERYTHING UP. If you prefer the tank role and running in and taking all the damage, then do that. Personally, I find tanking boring. Once you've settled for a role, then you can start thinking about a job. Don't stress your way to 70. Fill in MSQ with dungeons you unlock along the way and it will be fine!

Try them all in POTD and find what you prefer, never think about who does what better or the most requested jobs because this means nothing. SAM is one of the most played classes, but how long will it last? Eventually people goes back to their mains, and new jobs will be released. Something is considered underpowered? There's no such thing as power in this game. SAM king dps and Angered cleared A4S world's first with monk. People says machinist is underpowered? Aiuri Ai from Elysium does better damage than 95% of RDMs as Machinist. The only thing that counts is how do you like the class, because there's nothing better than make it shine. BTW, all tanks are balanced perfectly IMHO, and no one is outperforming the others.
