if you unplug a headset the game sound never comes back and need to restart the entire game. nearly everyone i know this issue happens, and everyone i ask says it happens to them if they do this as well. this issue has never happened with basically any game i have ever played.. super annoying! any way to fix this without having to shut down the entire game client??
has happened for as long as i can remember and then some between many computers i have used. i remember this happening in 1.0

only reason it bothers me so much is sometimes people want to talk on voice chat for a bit, but then when we are done, well... need to restart the client. oh well maybe some day they will address it. it's only been since sept 2010 when it first happened to me
It is annoying. I don't use Bluetooth headphones so I don't run into this issue when using vc.
But sometimes windows like to act up and switches my audio to my monitor's built in speakers and I have to restart the client when switching it back to my speakers. No other games that I know do this.
it occurs because the game doesn't auto switch to the audio between the two. I'll admit the problem can be annoying. I fixed the problem by buying a Y jack for my speakers/headphones... which I love since I don't have to unplug them anymore. Just turn the volume down on my headphones and turn my speakers up (and vise versa)
The lack of this feature is going on still.
I'm using a 3.5mm jack headset, and like the OP, I can't just switch the sound setting to my desktop and have the sound come out.
I actually have to close FFXIV client to have my sound come out. Quite...no, VERY annoying.
Before I came to play FFXIV, I was playing WoW, and they already had this feature N years ago.
Would appreciate if this feature gets implemented *soon*.

I always have to relog if I want to plug my headset indeed (if I want to go on discord for example).
When worlds were congested, I avoided doing it because i would have been in the queue again xD.
i assumed many others had this problem since it has been happening to me over 3 computers and also to friends. i remember making a bug report in game for the 1.0 closed beta but obviously it never went anywhere. hopefully this may get their attention.
