Patch 4.0, why multiclass?

So far, I have got my Bard and Ninja up to level 50 (Still doing the Realm Reborn quests). With the older system, there used to be additional action, you could bring actions from other classes and that made the idea of developing many classes interesting. And this is still the case with disciple of the hand classes. I was thinking about working on the monk or lancer.

However, now with patch 4.0, we now have role action. You automatically get some role actions as you level up.

So, what's the point in taking other classes now?

Variety...tank classes...healers...etc.

It's a themepark MMO. You can play 1 class or many. The only reason I leveled Thaumaturge, Archer, Lancer and the like in the old system wasn't because I liked them or enjoyed them but it was because I had to.

To be honest, I've found less reason to level a second job than ever before. Ignoring the cross-class skills being gone (and that's a net positive change), we still have the issue of materia / shared gear. If I meld 500 spell speed on my BLM, that's 500 secondary stats that my RDM won't want. And if I leveled something like NIN as a secondary job versus BLM, I'll want to farm up materia grade 6. You didn't really feel obligated to get grade 5 in 3.x because it was grade 5's 12 points of secondary stats versus grade 4's 9. But now it's grade 6's 40 points versus grade 5's 12. I'm not sure I can be bothered to gear up jobs that don't share gear until they add that stuff in as beastman quest rewards or something else.

There's a fair amount of people that like to play multiple jobs. Before, people had to spend time leveling classes, whether they liked them or not, to gain access to cross class abilities. Now with the cross role system, people only have to worry about leveling the jobs they actually want to play as opposed to leveling classes they dont enjoy for however long to get the "must have" cross class abilities

Unlike the Disciple of the hand jobs, it take much more time to level up combat class to level 50. So, it is an investment you have to think about.

I heard the pugilist/monk and lancer/dragoon classes got gutted in patch 4.0, tell me if it's true. If they are weaker, I'd rather go toward the machinist & samurai as DPS. Maybe I would take a tank class & a healer class.

Is this thread serious? You really are asking why freedom of choice? Would you rather create new toon every time you want to try new job/class?

Play for fun or for unofficial bonuses. For example, I main DRG for raids and Ex Primals, but leveled PLD strictly for Duty Roulettes and Tome farming because the queue is so fast. So in a sense, I leveled PLD to make gearing up my DRG easier.

Because sometimes you want to get into a party that requires a certain job to play, OR you've gotten so much gear for alternate jobs while farming for your main that you might as well just level the other jobs too.

Because I like having a couple at Max level for variety. For example, I'm leveling MCH/WAR/PLD because I love the way they play.
