Unable to detect DirectX device?

Hey,

Got a minor situation here. It's not a problem which makes the game unplayable or so but it's still quite annoying cause I can't Alt+Tab out of the game without crashing it.

So here's the thing. Once I hit the "Play" button on the login I'm not able to minimise the game without making it crash. It shows the following message.
"Unable to detect dirext X device. The program has shut down. Please restart Final Fantasy XIV"

It doesn't matter if I play on full-screen or windowed mode. Still happens.

Any help?

I get the same thing, I think its just how the game works (like FFXI did). Minimizing/alt-tabbing was originally disabled as a preventative measure for cheating, as many hacks based on injecting code need to be opened *after* the game process is already running in order for them to work properly, and you can't very well do that if the game crashes when you alt tab. The error message definitely could be a little more descriptive, and it's a little ridiculous that it does it even in windowed mode.

I know I'm stating the obvious, but - have you tried JUST alt-tabbing without minimizing? I'm sure you're minimizing so you can get yourself some space, but I hardly ever minimize games that are windowed myself.

Also Lerend - the funny thing about those so-called anti-cheat measures (I've played numerous Japanese-developed games that have this stupid "feature") is that they do little but to stop casual cheaters. Anyone who can Google and follow directions with technical stuff can easily bypass the full-screen-only requirement, so I don't know why companies continue to do it - as a means of making their investors feel "safe" that their game is "cheat free" thanks to the inability to alt tab?

You can't alt-tab in full screen now the part that you said it also happen in widower now that weird

I'm looking forward to 2.0 where it should be fixed, or so they say.
It shouldn't happen when you are in windowed mode though, try updating your drivers (if you are playing on a laptop, chances are it's your laptop causing it)
