Make certain PVE actions stack like they do in PVP?

So i don't know if there's a thread related to this already, but in PVP certain rotational actions are essentially stacked on top of each other to save hotbar space.

If there's an option to do this in the PVE content I haven't found it and would love to be able to do this as it saves space on my hotbars.

I play a RDM so my hotbar isn't all that cluttered as much as other jobs might be, but i don't see what the harm could be in making as much room as possible for any class that could benefit from it.

For players that don't like this there could be an option in the characters menu under hotbars that enables or disables this option.

again sorry if the thread is already out there or if there's been a notification that this is already in the works etc, but i've read around the forums an didn't see anything unless i've missed it an just thought this would be a good thing to implement.

There is no option for this. Consolidated actions are a PvP feature only.

I have a couple different points to make, so I'm going to post them separately so people can like like and notLike them separately.



In PvE, this could have some undesirable side effects for some jobs, in the vein of forcing certain "upgraded" actions when the "downgraded" action would actually be better.


To use RDM as an example, assume the following:

You are Verstone Ready.
You do not have Dualcast.
Your mana is 70|80.
You are mid-GCD after Dualcasting a spell.
Swiftcast is available.

Swiftcast→Veraero would get you to 81|80 in a single GCD, you would still be Verstone Ready, and you would be able to guarantee Verfire Ready by closing with Verflare.

If consolidated actions were in effect, you would be restricted to using Verstone→Veraero or Jolt→Veraero, taking two GCDs to do what should have been doable in one, and after the combo you would only be Verfire Ready.

On a related, but not exactly the same, topic: abilities upgrading to stronger versions was a good idea. When four different buttons all do the same thing, yes, they should just be one button.

Stance-specific actions also happened for WAR ([Inner Beast | Fell Cleave], [Steel Cyclone | Decimate]) and MNK (elemental tackles), which was nice. There are a few more mutually exclusive ability examples that could benefit from this.

[Enochian | Fire IV | Blizzard IV] being the same button would be nice, as there is no situation where more than one would be applicable, as would unified pet ability buttons so that we can place them on our main bars once and not have to re-slot them whenever we summon something different ([Gust | Gouge | Wind Blade | Rock Buster | Burning Strike], [Backdraft | Storm | Shockwave | Landslide | Crimson Cyclone], etc. **Side note: The ACN/SMN pet abilities should be reordered so all the corresponding abilities are in the same slot. Each pet has a spammable normal attack, an AoE, a utility ability, and an interrupt; yet the four actions are not in the same order for all pets).

But the examples above are consolidations of corresponding mutually exclusive abilities. There isn't a choice to be made (excepting, strictly speaking, in the case of Enochian, which could be reapplied for no reason -- but Fire IV and Blizzard IV are still mutually exclusive).

One cannot tell Garuda-egi to execute Crimson Cyclone; so why shouldn't the Crimson Cyclone button just become the Shockwave button? (Funnily enough, this would leave the SMN open to make the usually-wrong decision to use Shockwave.)

When we start consolidating combos, we limit the ability for people to make wrong decisions, and really, what game is worth playing if the game makes the right decision for the player before the player even decides what the right decision should be? Yeah, we often complain about people who make the wrong decisions. But as long as those wrong decisions don't make the game unreasonably difficult for everyone else, the answer should be teaching them how to make the right decisions, not taking away their ability to decide altogether.

I agree with what you're saying and i also understand what Rongway is saying. But, there are SOME abilities that could just be consolidated in PVE like the Enchanted Redoublement Combo, and Jolt becoming Impact. I'm not saying every ability should be combined like it is in PVP but certainly some could benefit and that would free up some space for sure. I think its certainly something worth looking into.
