New Player: Question for other WAR bros

Hey, guys. I'm very new to the game, having only played for about two weeks now - as a matter of fact this is my first MMO ever. Anyway, when I first started researching jobs in the game, I immediately feel in love with WAR for my Roe bro. I became a WAR and recently hit level 32. Now after the SB updates, I'm seeing a lot of WAR complaints, and I honestly don't understand the stated issues because I'm too new to the game to even understand them yet.

Anyway, my question is basically will these changes be of any concern whatsoever to a brand new player? FYI, my main focus in the game is socializing and making my character look awesome if that helps with the answer.

No. In fact, you're probably in a better place to learn the "new warrior" than a lot of returning players. A lot of the complaints have to do with how the job plays at max level; specifically clunkiness and/or poorly designed skills. These people are still learning/adapting. Their complaints are mostly exaggerated and stem from disappointment that WAR is no longer as easy as it once was. A lot of complaints have to do with what WAR brings to a group as far as raid utility, and those complaints are valid; however real raid content is still weeks away and we cannot possibly come to a conclusion until we see what mechanics we need to deal with.

So i suggest for you to spend time on the forum/internet learning about the proper and efficient ways to play the job. But the best thing for you to do to learn, is just play.

TL : DR WAR is different, people are still adapting/complaining it isn't the same as it was. You have nothing to worry about.

You're going to learn the new Warrior from the ground up and hopefully by the time you reach max level the job will have received some very necessary tweaks.

well Guolstyrm if you new to War you should not feel the neft impact since you never play it at 50-60 in 3.0, all the advice i can give you is to level it up to 70 an take a judgement yourself, as a veteran retire WAR i will give you a simple round up of the situation in as little words as possible sorry for my broken English in advance.
a warrior is a tank class that use to do damage in order to survive, is the type of tank that can rush into battle an keep himself alive for a good time thanks to his own self sustain( war identity problem here) so the war maybe you notice before SB patch how he is able to self heals thanks to bloodbath, the tank stance( defiance/deliverance) dacing rewarded you for fast reaction ,so if you are someone with fast hands it feels really good to adapt on any situations an since you did not have a penalty on changing stances war feel really good at that moment .
the play style of war was really good at least for me, rotations/selfsustain/is a tank/dps too so perfect for those who love to trade blows face to face on enemies an multitasking, an if you got good knowledge of your CDs you could be deliverance even killing pack of mobs an survive just fine, this is what give him the title of "One man Army", the job has few to none flaws i love the war class since 1.0 is always being my main class even do i got all character max out i just cant see war the same way an this is a few of the reasons why( there is many more but this is what makes me salty):
1-stance dancing use half your beast gauge or whatever is call' in order for yo to put DPS on the table you need this beast gauge stacks to accumulate, well if you change from deliverance to defiance or vise versa it will cost half your gauge, that means you get a penalty every time you change stances, something that use to feel so good on war for some reason someone was like "this is a great idea lets make them pay 50% of whatever they have just for change stances", very very bad move from them, took a lot of flavor of war 3.0.
2-new skills we have 2 of them feels really clunky wish is "Onslaught i think is call an shake it off",those skills one use 20/100 rage an shake it off dont work in most situations besides maybe a mob stat? is alright maybe for a lv 12 war but for a lv 68 skill is not very welcome to most wars on my own experience.
3-our combos were change to, maybe some ppl like it others not but the flaw i see here is that storm path gives >>>20<<< rage/eye 10/butcher block >>10<<< this is really concerning, since war can be both MT/OT it feels bad at the moment of MT since you only get 10 rage on butcher block which is your aggro combo an most powerful one making the gauge feels super slow to fill, remember you get 10 points not 20 like storm path a simple solution could be making butcher give 20 rage like path, so we can feel a little faster, thats what war is all about being faster an more damage, but now butcher giving 10 rage an dancing costing you 50% rage bar is a huge downgrade to play style...i can tell this is why war feels so slow to play..

just a few things that im gonna point out
4- lost of skills/second wind/internal release/flash/bloodbath/mercy stroke an others, were very nice tools so out of all this changes war suffer the most
5- lost utility for raid storm path 10 DMG reduction to raid group, something weird most ppl stay silence about this because the common sense is that if you bring no utility you bring numbers, war fall behind the tank DPS department too,they are suppose to be the monk of tanks right now, but well it is what is..
there could be many other reasons but i will leave that to someone else so i can get a feeling if its me that is butt hurt or is really the class they bring down t the floor.
again i will strongly recommend you to go 70 maybe you will like it, maybe you will not but this is just my opinion on the job so do not let that discourage you to play the tank, now that the community need it the most specially.

Thanks for the input, guys! Based on what you've all suggested, I'm going to continue along the path of the warrior for now and see how it goes. Since there have been so many people complaining about the changes, I thought I'd at least ask since I've only just become a WAR and other classes like PLD is still easily within reach. I do think that being brand new is advantageous in this specific instance since I know nothing of how WAR worked before. Anyways, thanks again. :3

My impression is that the largest problem WAR has right now is that it underwent a heavy revision that was not in the direction the community expected nor desired.

The change was intended to make the class MORE of a tank and LESS of a DPS. There is disagreement on two basic points:
1. Should it have been changed like this?
2. Did it actually even succeed in changing in this direction?

I am in the extreme minority that says yes to both of those questions. The bulk of these forums says no to point one, and a majority still say no to point two.

Historically this class was a high-damage tank that stayed alive by self-healing so much that healers could focus elsewhere, and yet also managed to hold massive aggro.

At the initial launch of the 'ARR' 2.0 revision of the game, the WAR was like the 'Bruiser' of 'City of Villains' (which will make no sense to a new MMO player): It was a high damage class that held aggro (enmity), but had no sustainability. It was considered very weak because you needed a very strong healer actively healing you as your self heals were too weak. This was fixed maybe a month or two after game launch - a viable design in City of Heroes, it didn't work here.

- I mention this because one common criticism seems to be that some feel the WAR has gone 'partially back' to those days, as the self-healing is now radically different.

BUT this might just be a process of learning how to do it in the new model.

In the old days you could keep up very high DPS and self heal at the same time. We're still feeling this out - but I think if you shift focus a bit you can keep up good sustainability through a combo of self-heals and new role-skill based mitigation. But doing this cuts your DPS. A lot.

I think... as a newer player to this... your best bet is to AVOID guides... because they're either written for the old model or by people disgruntled over the changes... and explore it yourself to find what works.

Experiment in all of your runs to find what is keeping you alive best, and holding the most enmity...

Not having been 'colored' by the old model: you might find yourself being the best one of us to write the new guide in a month or so from now.

You have nothing to worry about. Even though Warriors received a few adjustments, they're still very fun to play! People might say it's "easier" to do "this thing" or "that thing" on Paladin or Dark Knight, and while that may be true, there's still the look and feel of Warriors that the other two tanks don't have.

For example, when I had to level up my Gladiator to level 15, I was literally APPALLED at how boring it was! The skills looked so boring, and SOUNDED so boring. It just didn't feel cool at all! But with Warrior? SO GOOD! You actually felt as though you were SMASHING your axe on top of that monster! Not to mention you still get the satisfaction of having the most HP out of the other two tanks (even though, in reality, that doesn't matter all that much).
